2025-2026 Badger Men's Hockey

We are fully back into "we suck again" territory.

We're fully in "we need to win 3 of the last 4 and handily defeat our B1G first round opponent" territory
 
I don't think we're sweeping Big Blue.

I think we need to win the B1G. I'm hopeful, but realistically don't see them in the Tourney. It's a shame because of how they started.
 
Sadly, no crow for Keg Man.

The only good thing in this split is Big Blue was # 2 (yes, in more ways than 1).

I think Bucky's going to be on the bubble and probably needs to win the B1G or at least make the championship

I was at Friday's game, and there's the team we saw early in the season and hadn't seen yet in 2026. Most complete game in a long time.

Saturday was a bummer, but the other team is good too.

Having gone 4-2 against the top 2 teams in the NPI, and moving from 15 to 13 after Friday and staying there after Saturday, I think they need to get one from Penn State and then just not lose in the first round of the B1G and they should be good.

The team that we need to keep an eye on is whomever finishes 2nd in the CCHA (right now MN-St Mankato).

If we get swept by Penn State, then we'll need to at least make the B1G title game is my guess.

Dummy me, thought we were done after Big Blue.

If we can sweep Penn State, I think we're in. 1 might do it.
 
Today, Bucky is 13 in NPI. Because Tournament Champions get auto bids, they are on the bubble. Still highly likely that two Conference Champions are ranked above 16 NPI.

Therefore, this is a huge weekend. Penn State is 5 NPI. A sweep would probably ensure Bucky's in the Tourney. A split or anything else that moves them up to 12 NPI would also probably guarantee a Tourney slot.

1-1 against the current #5 NPI team would certainly do it, then you just can't lose at home against B1G #5 (currently OSU) in the 1st B1G Round.

We're off this weekend. We are probably locked into the B1G 4 seed (PSU would have to lose 4 in a row (2 to ND, 2 to us) to fall out of the 3 seed).

Ohio State is the current 5, but only up on Minnesota by a point. OSU is @ Mich St then hosts ND. Minny is @ Michigan then hosts MSU. So the odds are that the standings hold (though Michigan is only in 1st (and a bye to the 2nd round) by a point).

So if UW can take 1 from PSU, and beat OSU/Minn in the first round of the B1G, that's probably a solid top-12 NPI finish, and safely in the tournament.

If we get swept, then we're on the bubble (drop to no worse than 14, probably) and a loss to the lower seed in the first round puts us on life support.
