Injuries: CB Eric Stokes (PUP-Knee/Foot), TE Tyler Davis (ACL)

Not Practicing / Limited: EDGE Rashan Gary (Knee), RB Lew Nichols (Shoulder), RB Tyler Goodson (Shoulder), OL Caleb Jones (Ankle), OT Luke Tenuta (Ankle), ILB De'Vondre Campbell (Ankle), Bo Melton (Hamstring)

Offense:

  • David Bakhtiari is practicing today.
  • RB Tyler Goodson still not practicing but not in a sling anymore.
  • Starting O: Bak-Jenkins-Myers-Runyan-Tom | Watson-Doubs-Dillon-Jones-Musgrave | Love
  • Day two or joint practices = fights. We have our first scuffle. Josiah Deguara is heated.
  • Packers starters v. NE: Nice cutback by Jones to running lane left created by Bak and Jenkins
  • Jones tries to get outside cuts back for few yards on left side.
  • Dillon a few yards up the middle.
  • Play-action, finds Jones in flat out of backfield.
  • Play-action, Doubs comes across behind LOS, Love throws to him in flat, DB close by to make stop.
  • Malik Heath almost starts another fight driving a DB into the Resch Center… Marcus Jones took a swing at him. Packers and Patriots practiced nice for a day.
  • Clifford at QB Handoff right to Taylor. Cuts back for a few yards.
  • Awesome play action fake by Clifford, did the ole Rodgers fake and delay - must be the locker. Unfortunately he threw high for Chrest and he knew it. Wanted it back immediately.
  • Things extremely chippy between packers offense and pats defense. Almost a 3rd fight. Pearson ends up without a helmet. Pats coaches get their team together to settle things down.
  • McGough at QB: McCrary with a running lane up the middle
  • And for 4 times out of 5 plays a fight breaks out. Aaron Jones is getting physical so that tells you all you need to know. High high tension right now. Jabrill Peppers is non stop chirping Green Bay’s receiving core.
  • Aaaaand on the very next snap, Aaron Jones breaks off a long run, and Jalen Mills gives him an extra shove after the play.
  • Wicks and Heath continuing to show their blocking abilities.
  • Starting offense back on field: Play-action and pitch right to Jones for good gain.
  • Nickel blitz, goes unpicked up, Love throws away.
  • Pitch right to Jones, nice block by Wicks.
  • Play-action, good coverage, Love goes through progressions, finds Dillon in flat.
  • Wilson run for few yards up middle.
  • Jayden Reed is practicing in team drills.
  • Clifford back at QB for 2nd time: Few yard run by Wilson
  • Nice job by Wilson to help Walker with pass rusher. Nowhere for Clifford to go with ball.
  • McGough at QB: DuBose in motion. Handoff to McCrary for little gain.
  • Packers offense goes nowhere in the first period. 16 plays and not a throw downfield.
  • Love - Watson - Touchdown first play of red zone back of the end zone on a post route. Watson won clean beats (Myles Bryant or Marcus Jones?). Perfect throw from 10.
  • Love’s short pass to Musgrave broken up by Adrian Phillips.
  • Love’s out to Reed broken up by Myles Bryant.
  • Love rolls right, great protection by Bakh might still have been sacked. Tried to find Deguara but he was covered well. Incomplete.
  • Love throws a pick Kyle Duggar to 23 trying to get it to Musgrave. Tight coverage by Pats here in red zone. Love now 1/5 with a touchdown and an INT in the drill.
  • Myers beat, Love buys time. Jump ball to Watson who really skies for it. TD. Good job by Watson finding hole in the zone. May have been a sack/hold in a real game. Nice play by Love/Watson tho.
  • Clifford in red zone: Blitzer may have had sack but finds Wilson over middle for TD.
  • Nice touch pass to Watts in back left corner. PBU by DB. Good play by defense.
  • Throws to DuBose on slant. PBU.
  • Good protection, Austin Allen catches a TD, and hits a GRONK SPIKE against the Patriots. Bold.
  • McGough at QB: Ball batted at LOS
  • Ball tipped at LOS.
  • Really nice grab by DuBose on the left sideline. Continuing to flash
  • Clifford complete to Kraft in the flat, lowered his shoulder, but got laid out by Marte Mapu. Ball out. Kraft slow to get up. Tucker Kraft heading inside with a trainer. Now he came back out with helmet on.
  • Aaron Jones run left goes nowhere.
  • Meanwhile Watson gets bumped off his route, incomplete. Looked like the CB Jones got their early, but no call.
  • Love missed Doubs on a slant incomplete.
  • Love gets the Pats to jump for a free play. Hard count stays lethal in GB.
  • Likely would be sack on Love. Swings it out to Wicks but no gain there either.
  • Love incomplete to Toure over the middle broken up. Patriots intensity much higher than the Packers. Packers getting outplayed right now.
  • Love throws a late ball rolling right back to his left to Toure. Should have been picked. Couple bad decisions from 10 today.
  • Nice little swing pass /screen to Jones with Deguara as the blocker. Well designed play. GREAT job by Love reading the slot blitz post snap.
  • Kraft back in team drills. He’s ok.
  • Love to Toure on a deep out. One of his best throws of the day so far.
  • Nice work by Wicks getting off the initial jam and perfectly placed ball by Love behind the corner and in front of the safety for a good chunk play.
  • Love overthrows Wicks deep right in the endzone. Wasn’t really there anyway. Pats defense as advertised today. Jordan Love 4/9 in that set of team. Not a lot going. A lot of short ball.
  • McGough “sacked”, rolls around anyway, “sacked” again.
  • Starting offensive line — the one you’re probably going to see against Chicago — has held up well against Patriots defensive front. The third OL very much is not. Alex McGough running all over the place.
  • 2 minute drill. Down 7. Ball on own 25. 1:40. 2 timeouts. And Love immediately throws a pick. Tried to fit a ball in between cover 2 on a deep out to Doubs but Marcus Jones tips it & picks it. Hell of a play.
  • Reset 2 MIN Drill - *and now it’s pouring rain* - incomplete short right to Musgrave.
  • Slant left to Watson picks up 9.
  • 1st Down via penalty.
  • Love to Wicks for 15 over the middle.
  • Dillon run for 5. Timeout.
  • Musgrave drop.
  • Love complete to Musgrave for the 1st.
  • Love *just* overthrew Musgrave deep down the seam. 88 got one hand on it.
  • Love rolls right, throws deep to Deguara in the endzone. Extended for it, woulda been a nice catch. But goes through his hands. Not an easy catch but one you'd like to see him make.
  • Short to Musgrave. OB.
  • Complete to Doubs on the sideline, setting up 3rd & Short.
  • Great leaping pass breakup by Christian Gonzalez on a go ball intended for Dontayvion Wicks.
  • Love extends play, throws late over the middle to Musgrave in the endzone. Perfect ball, Musgrave goes to get it, and drops the game tying touchdown. Been that kinda day.
  • Clifford in 2 min: Complete on out route. Modest gain.
  • False start.
  • Initial read not there. Pressure. Throws incomplete.
  • Throws behind Deguara on crosser.
  • 4th and 8 Wilson gets just enough of blitzer. Complete from Clifford to Heath for a first. 0:56 left. Down 7. Still have both timeouts. On own 30. 1st and 10 now.
  • Next play Heath catches a short pass on sideline but tries to get up field rather than getting out of bounds. Timeout.
  • Pass to Chrest on left sideline. Created space with comeback. First down but click ticks.
  • Incomplete to Deguara over the middle. 2nd & 10. Ball on pats 45. 26 seconds. 1 timeout. Down 7.
  • Chrest short catch. Timeout. 21 seconds. 3rd and 7. 0 timeouts left.
  • Dubose with an awesome catch to the 20 on a deep crosser. Clifford really let it rip.
  • Spike. 4 seconds left. Down 7. One play from the 20. Timeout pats.
  • Blitzer comes flying though, Clifford heaves towards end zone, two Pats players should have picked it off Adrian Phillips missed the pick and Packers WR Cody Chrest catches football off ricochet for a TD. Packers sideline goes nuts and mobs Chrest. Jaire lets Pats hear it.
  • McGough 2 min drill should have ended in a pick with about 50 seconds left but a Pats player tipped it away from another Pats player. Watts gets crushed on 4th down following an Emmanuel Wilson drop. That does it for practice. Player of the day: The Patriots
Defense:

  • Kenny Clark and Tariq Carpenter are back today as well.
  • LB Isaiah McDuffie getting a lot of reps with No. 1 defense with De’Vondre Campbell currently out with an ankle injury.
  • Defense Clark - Slaton - Wyatt | Enagbare - McDuffie - Quay - Smith|Rasul - Jaire | Owens - Savage
  • Tyquan Thornton draws a DPI on a vertical route. Thornton was winning on the route. A DPI on Alexander Vs Thornton
  • Nixon breaks up a quick screen
  • LVN and Hollins both have a shot at a sack on Jones. Pass then dropped.
  • Wyatt had a pressure on Jones and then Slaton probably has a sack on next play.
  • Tyquan Thornton just laid out for a 40-yard bomb from Mac Jones. A diving catch on a deep crosser from Mac. Best downfield throw for the Patriots offense over the last two days. But Enagbare would’ve had a sack. Thornton might be injured on the play, now leaving and having shoulder looked at.
  • Ezekiel Elliott just took his first 11-on-11 rep since joining Patriots. Took a handoff from Bailey Zappe for about four yards. Made a nice jump cut.
  • Looks like Preston opened team red zone with a sack of Jones
  • Zeke is now repping with the 1s. Back-to-back reps alongside Mac Jones.
  • Offense with a strong red zone sequence. Mac throws TDs to JuJu (whip), Bourne (dig), and Parker (dig) against Jaire. Then, Zeke appeared to take an inside handoff for a touchdown from about the two.
  • We have footage of that Bourne TD video
  • Things getting chippy all over the field now. Demario Douglas just caught a TD from Bailey Zappe and spun the ball in the end zone, and a Packers player ran over and kicked it off the scoreboard.
  • Patriots offense having success in red zone though they’re have been a couple “sacks”
  • Another Parker touchdown after Demario Douglas and Anthony Firkser also scored in the red zone. Oh, and Douglas just scored again. This is a freaking party.
  • Mac Jones: 3-4, sack, two TDs Bailey Zappe: 4-5, sack, four TDs.
  • Zeke also scored from 10 yards out.
  • Not sure what changed with the Patriots offense overnight, but this is the best I’ve seen them look since moving here a year ago.
  • Rashan Gary is working on initial pass rush moves against Ladeem Telfort with Jason Rebrovich overseeing. Getting close…
  • Arron Mosby came in late at a heavy position but he keeps making plays. In backfield in 2s defense
  • Tyrell Ford gets a pick off Zappe after pass gets deflected. Coz had pressure
  • SJC on blitz from slot tips pass. Behind WR.
  • WR sits down in zone. Complete for 6-7 yards.
  • Running lane, Moore comes up to make stop by LBs.
  • Few yard run up the middle.
  • Play-action right, screen left. 10 or so yards.
  • WR screen, Moore and Thomas right there
  • Nice break on ball by Wilson, deflected then picked off Zappe bal by T. Ford.
  • Bailey Zappe just hit Tre Nixon with a perfectly thrown 35-yard TD. Beat Thomas down right sideline for deep ball. Mosby was close by for sack in real time.
  • Play-action and Wooden was in the backfield almost instantly. Sack.
  • Cox and Mosby force QB to step up. Sack. Good coverage.
  • Finds WR on quick out. Nice hustle by Cox to get downfield.
  • Nice run up middle.
  • Wilson jumps quick slant, batts ball in air. Jimmy Phillips picks it off to end team twos.
  • Kenny Clark looks good. Had some pressure today. He and Slaton coverage for a sack. Jones didn’t get a Throw off
  • Starting defense now on field: Tight coverage by McDuffie v. TE downfield but nice pass by Jones. Good push from IDL
  • Clark and Slaton with a lot of push. Jones dumps off for few yards over middle.
  • Coverage sack.
  • 5 yard run to left side of line.
  • Incomplete out route. Savage was close by.
  • Screen. Nice stop by Owens. Enagbare also may have forced the OT to hold.
  • Van Ness on a stunt. Good coverage gives Enagbare time to get home.
  • Starting defense in red zone: Draw left. Decent gain.
  • Hard run by NE RB.
  • Sack by McDuffie on blitz.
  • Run of a few yards inside the 10
  • Zeke just powered into the end zone, and had the ball ripped out late. Unclear if it happened before he crossed the goal line.
  • Draw from shotgun. Defense stops it at LOS.
  • Latest Mac Jones run in 11s saw pressure issues come back up. Three “sacks” and Rhamondre appeared to go 1-for-3 on goal line runs. As a whole, run blocking has improved today. But still a work in progress.
  • J.J. Taylor embarrassed a Packers defender along the sideline after a short catch, and Ezekiel Elliott is still hyping him up after it a minute later.
  • Starting defense in 2 min v. NE: Throw to flat. Jaire there to limit play.
  • Run up middle. First down.
  • Completion on quick out.
  • Finds TE on crosser. Stopped right away.
  • Sack by Enagbare.
  • Right after Jaire Alexander (on the field) and Jabril Peppers (on the sideline) finish chirping each other, Jones deep ball complete for a 45 yard TD. Parker had step on Douglas on the go route. A thorough ass kicking by the Pats today.
  • The difference in energy by the two sidelines is STRIKING right now. Pats lively. Packers look like they got punched in the mouth hard. Jabrill Peppers still is talking on the sideline. Ezekiel Elliott is loving it.
  • Second defense v. NE in 2 min: Complete over middle.
  • Nowhere to go. Throws ball away.
  • Throw to flat. Nice job by Thomas to limit play.
  • Zappe buys time, finds TE in space sitting on left sideline.
  • Cox on stunt forces pressure. Throwaway.
  • Wilson on the blitz forces throwaway.
  • Good protection but good coverage. Scrambles and tries to fit ball on sidelines. Incomplete.
  • Ford on late blitz, doesn’t get home quick enough, connects over middle. Had a chance to get off the field on 4th and long here.
  • Complete to TE but Thomas right there again.
  • Ball at 23, 0:30 left — incomplete in pass to left side of end zone. Valentine in close coverage.
  • Good pressure. Possible sack. Scrambles and completes pass to the one.
  • Jimmy Phillips with a pick earlier, just had a nice pressure off the edge on a blitz in 2 minute.
  • Kayshon Boutte ends a long two-minute drive with a touchdown from Zappe. Little whip route on the goal line against CB Kiondre Thomas. Nice job by Boutte to keep his feet in bounds at the front pylon.
Special Teams:

  • Rudy Ford and Carrington Valentine first team jammers on punt return. That’s one way to get 37 on the field.
  • We’ve got another fight. This time on special teams. Clears pretty quickly again. A lot of little fights. No major brewhaha yet. Feels like it’s coming though.
  • Patriots LB Anfernee Jennings is getting kicked out of practice for cheap-shotting Packers Keshawn Banks who had stopped LB Calvin Munson a while after a punt coverage rep. Ran over and hit him right in the back of the head/neck. There’s “chippy,” then there’s “cheap.” Banks maybe threw a punch?
  • Leavitt is hurt on punt, which triggers a fight involving McDuffie. Isaiah McDuffie was on the ground getting kicked by a Patriots player. McDuffie’s helmet flew off. Looked like Keion White was involved again. Punt period ends 3:30 early. “Finish this Saturday,” a Patriots player yells walking off the field after special teams period ends early.

Interviews:

LaFleur
Presser:

  • Matt LaFleur said he would like to conduct joint practices with two teams next year. Said they have gotten invaluable practice time against the Patriots and Bengals this summer.
  • Matt went out of his way to praise Sean Clifford for how he handled the Patriots pressure, checking to max protect against the Patriots blitz (I believe on the td to Heath in 2 min).
  • “They’ve provided a spark” said LaFleur about Brooks and Wooden as interior pass rushers.
  • Jayden Reed will go through individual drills and then see if he’ll be ready to go for team.
  • Matt LaFleur said as of now, he’s unsure if he’s inclined to play Jordan Love this Saturday vs the Patriots or next week in their preseason finale vs the Seahawks.
  • “Our defense did an outstanding job of winning their one-on-ones when they got them. Sometimes guys were splitting double teams. I thought the pressure on the quarterback was pretty consistent.”

Pretty much what I expect for this young team this season. Ups and downs but these joint practices were good work for these guys.
