Post Game Thread: GB beats Chicago 45-30

Tyler Ervin is a free agent. Gets nicked up, but he can field punts. Turned aroundcour all time historic record of negative punt yardage two years ago. Put us in positive on punt return ysrds for the season.

Can consistently field punts cleanly. Put Malik on IR or something.
He's a FA for a reason, 28 and losing his mojo. There isn't a real week 15 solution out there, to be honest, or not one that's a whole lot better than we already have... sh))

He's a FA because he gets nicked up too much. That's why he was available the first time we picked him up. But he can field punts, consistently.

Special Teams suck. So, on kick offs just kick the damn ball out of the end zone and don't give them a chance to return. Let them have the ball on the 25. Punt it into the endzone or out of bounds. It's not complicated. Stop being cute. Accept your deficiency and play not to have it be a problem. It's not giving up it's smart and playing not to have them beat you. Don't even have a punt returner back there. Just prevent big returns and get the ball for Damn sake.

Other than that, was on the Toy Drive yesterday so was focused on other things. A win is a win.

Enjoy our days, we're really going to hate next year.

Next year is going to be awesome.

Agree Keg, they need to plan around their kick coverage and return deficiencies.

- Just kick it into the endzone on kick-offs, assuming Crosby can do that consistently. If not, I'd almost rather he squibb kick it to one of the up men. Less danger of a long return.

- Punts should be in the endzone or angled out of bounds. Will that result in some short punts, maybe, but I'll take that over the returns of 10yds and more that seem to happen far too consistently.

- Never return a kickoff if you don't have to. They rarely seem to get to the 25yd line anyway. Just take it at the 25 every time.

- I really don't have an answer for punt returns. Rodgers isn't good. If Cobb was available I'd just tell him to fair catch every single one, but he's not available right now. I'd say let them all just bounce and take it where it stops, but punts can take some awfully long rolls and you just give up so much damn field position I think you have to have Rodgers field them. Just tell him not to return them as that adds in the factor of having to hurry to make the catch and gather himself quickly to start running. Just fair catch them all and focus on making the catch. Don't think about anything else. Hope for the best.

In ONE game:
Gave up a Punt Return TD
Kickoff out of bounds
Muffed Onside kick
Muffed punt (negated by penalty)
Gave up a 34 yard punt return, a 40 yard kick return, and a 42 yard kick return.
I'm still boggled that an NFL team can be this bad at covering kicks.
I honestly didn't think they could get much worse than they'd been the last four or five years, but they are.

We've kept a kicker on the PS all year and protected him each game. I'm guessing there is a reason for that.

Welcome to MLF's first post bye win! But the team did seem to be dazed and confused the first half. They looked completely different the second half. Not sure if the coach's struggle to prepare the team during a bye week or ???

As others said, ST was stunningly bad, but at least Crosby's FG/XP kicks were clean. Malik Taylor has no reason to be on this team. Rodgers had a couple nice returns buried in the fact that he can't seem to cleanly field the ball. That is at least the second time the ball glanced off his facemask this year - concentrations issues? And punt and kickoff coverage??? oy vey

Our offensive line is now down to 1 starting guard (not sure if that would be Runyan or Newman) and 4 backups. Missing Bak, Jenkins, Myers and Turner, yet they keep getting it done. Not sure I want to see that line in the playoffs though...

Nice to see Deguara looking faster and more comfortable in the offense. That lessons the loss of Tonyan.

Rasul Douglas - Wow. That is all.
