Rodgers Wants Out

My mom recently moved to Florida, and she complains that everyone tells her Publix has the best bread but it's still not as good as back home.
The Chicken Tender sub or wrap beats anything out there

You know, I believe she's right. Not only bread, but beef and pork aren't quite as good either. We also notice it with large slicing tomatoes. Acorn squash is about 1/2 the size of those up North. Lots of difference. Then there's the Danish. Never saw so many bland things offered as we find in South Texas. It's better in Austin, but so much isn't quite as good down here.

depends where you buy your beef. Its night and day from Fresh Market / Whole Foods to say Kroger

This is the grocery store I remember as a kid.
Had one in my home town!

Most of what you get in the South half of Texas is actually beef from Mexico. I think we bring in nearly a half a billion cattle a year on foot, into the US.

This gives you an idea as to how these outfits work. If you notice, the cattle from Mexico is often kinda scrawny. Tougher beef, less fatty tissue. That's that low grade tough beef you buy at the store. We have two or three of these operations along the Texas border. I think you'll find this interesting. I did, when I visited one of these sites.

I tend to like Kroger and Publix the best here, On the Publix bread comment like any bakery, not every Publix is tops but they still have a better bakery than most places by a lot. Great deli and meats are consistent.

Kroger has great eye candy here.... ;)

We have an Aldi's and I go there here and there, in fall they get a schnitzel in that's as good as any restaurant so I pick up a couple of bags.
