How this plays out will be part of the Murphy/ Gute legacy for a long time.

yes it will. and my best guess is that ten years from now it will be a generally accepted opinion that murphy and gute screwed up this team royally - going from a perennial division-winning team that was always in the conversation for a championship to a perennial 8-8 team with no real post-season prospects. it's clear that they do not have a knack for the evaluation of players already on the team or draft prospects. how many first round picks have they spent on defense, and we still don't have a mediocre defense? they've had a few successes in veteran player acquisition, but it's not enough.

Like it or not players have power especially elite guys like Rodgers. It’s a dangerous precedent to set when you strong arm the league MVP or even perceive that you did. Athletes First is probably next to CAA the most powerful representation group in the NFL. Organizations need to have good relationships with them. Agents push players to certain organizations for that reason. Trust. Murphy needs to be aware of that and do what’s best for the organization and player both short term and long term

I don't disagree but this is a labor dispute pure and simple. From a management perspective, you can't let Rodgers strong-arm you either. He's in a poor position to be dictating very much.

Frankly, he's under contract for 3 years and while you could argue he deserves more he's certainly not garnering any sympathy for being underpaid, etc. To be frank, he's losing support in the fan base by doing this....the longer it draws out the worse it will be. We don't really know exact specifics on his displeasure but I do know that he's not getting a lot of sympathy from former players and the current bunch is staying quiet which is also odd.

Bottomline I think there is a lot of blame on both sides of this deal and that no one will win in the end.

Assuming Rodgers leaves the entire division will have upheaval. Fields clearly is Chicago’s future, Mond got picked to take over assuming Cousins is out, Goff in Detroit and Love in GB. I am not assuming 8-8 seasons because with all the turnover who knows who steps up. Each organization in the division has major question marks

The org isn't strong-arming him, they've bent over backwards to accommodate him. His job is not in jeopardy. Sure they drafted his replacement. Guess what? He destroyed the presumption that he needed replacing with his performance last season. He apparently rejected their attempt to give him more money. Why can't he just accept the win? The general consensus view Im seeing and hearing is, What the heck is Rodgers so angry about here?

Packers front office is the dammed if you dammed if you don't just like it was with Favre. Fans will say he's the HOF QB you give him what he wants screw everyone else that he's the team blah blah blah. Packers have to look out for whats best for the team just not in 2021 but the next years forward. Is it smart to commit $100+ million dollars and perhaps drastic changes to the front office to appease a QB who will be 38 years old this season and keep him until he's in his 40s hoping his skill keeps up and he also just does not decide one day to say that's it I am done here you go GB go find someone else to start.

I agree and how you navigate that is critical. It’s much more prevalent in the NBA with players forcing moves but I think NFL players have taken notice and will also try the tactics. Ramsey did it to some extent in Jax, Watson is trying in Houston. Yes clear there is blame on both sides

I don’t disagree but unfortunately perception is reality to many. Personally if it’s me, if he requests a trade i do it. Don’t just sit and let the situation escalate. He just plain wants out of GB IMO and it’s not something that happened in the last 30 days or 12 months.

Difference with Ramsey/Watson is they were/are playing for dysfunctional/doormat teams and had reasons other than having their feelings hurt for wanting out.
GB has not been a doormat, and the QB already forced out a HC so he’s testing his boundaries to see if he can extend it to GM as well.

Daniel Jeremiah at NFLN said he spoke to a GM about the situation (probably Mayock I guess?), who told him the Packers org only has one play, to call his bluff. Because you can't let a player with 3 years left on his deal bully you for some perceived slight, and you certainly can't let that player dictate your front office personnel.

I totally agree with that statement. If he wants to walk, let him. No matter what, the 2021 season will be a joke at this point. If he's not on the field, we have Love, and that's it for anyone knowing the system. We see our back-up QB signed in Detroit, so he's no longer out there. There is no way we will be competitive.

If he does come back, it's not going to be much better. He's going to make the front office wish they'd just released him.

This is the military's equivalent of a SNAFU!
