The NCAA Division I Council meets Wednesday and Thursday, and the agenda includes voting on a proposal that would grant all college athletes the ability to transfer one time as undergraduates without having to then sit out a season of…

I kinda like it for it's fairness to the athletes to make a change if things aren't what they expected. The concern is whether this allows teams to "recruit" super teams by more easily allowing "stars" to move to schools to win titles. Doesn't seem like something that would happen in college, but we'll see.

It will happen kids will leave early for draft or not pan out and will use go betweens to get a kid to leave one school to go to another with promise of more playing time, chance to start, or just be on better team.

This basically becomes a new “recruiting window” each year but so far 99% of the kids in the portal are not 5 star kids. The only kid that I’ve seen as an exception is Bryce Thompson from Kansas. Not sure how this plays out, i suspect a lot of 3rd party conversations while kids are still enrolled and “suggest” alternatives. I saw one suggestion that you don’t sit if you transfer after freshman and but get locked in after that to old rules after.

Most elite kids who would leave early would be one and done anyway. This is more about fringe or “program kids”. I’ve only seen 1 elite kid enter the portal

My bigger concern on this is how this will impact kids already on scholarship and could force some kids out to make room for a transfer. At least in the old system you knew you has one year to make the transfer fit. Now will schools not renew a kids scholarship if they enter the portal? Will they pull an offer from a 3 star kid to make room? That’s the issue I see as the most pressing

I was thinking more like football. Example QB at bama leave school early. Then bama goes to Auburn and gets the kid to transfer to them to fill the hole.

Timing. Kids have until mid January to declare so doubtful he could enroll and pass NCAA clearance in time to be eligible
