2021 Off Season Thread

I read he’s “considering” now that he’s been released.
Nothing in stone.
Veld here has been in the same position for two years.

My concern is that they could start the season with a different player at every position on the OL than they started/finished the 2020 season with.

You need a cheap vet there will be guys to pick up on the street that won't be the best but can maybe get you through 6-8 games before you can get Bak back and can swing Turner over. Also remember everyone in the NFL is looking for tackles. This year you won't find much in FA beyond backup and long in the tooth vets.

So went to overthecap.com Did salary cap game there. I cut Lowry and Jackson. I restructured both Smith's and Rodgers. I extended Adams. I gave a 2nd round tender to Tonyan. I gave ERFA tenders to Lazard , Sullivan, Nijman. I resigned Lane Taylor on a 1 year vet min no guarantee deal. That left me about $4-5 million under the cap.

After all that work and we’re only 4-5 under, which is just for draft picks? We’re not in good shape.

75% of the NFL is in bad shape for 2021. If and when the new TV money comes into play we could see huge spikes in the cap in the next few years. Packers are paying the price for being a competive team. Paying guys top end market money at some point catches up to you.

It’s not a matter of if or when on the TV deals it’s happening and will drastically impact the 2022 cap

Did the league and PA discuss rolling some of that cap space back a year, in other words borrowing against it?

They said the floor for 2021 would be $180 million and that both the owners and NFLPA agreed to this. I am guessing that both sides did agree to take some of the loss in 2020 and apply it to the 2022 cap and not take all the loss in 2021.

Actually the $180m is the ceiling and per the memo from the NFL office it was not the final number pending further review. Assuming the TV deals are what’s being discussed you can assume the owners might be more flexible with borrowing more $$.
