With Their Pick In Round 2 GB Selects Josh Jackson CB Iowa

I have mixed emotions on him to be honest. The Big 10 isn't as pass oriented as the majority of conferences. What he did was great, but is it enough to consider him an elite DB? I'm not certain.

I do know one thing. He had to be strong enough to hit people because that's what they do in the Big 10.

I'm anxious to see how he turns his hips to run with receivers. He's going to meet some really quick cats out there who can make moves most people only dream they could.

Keep reading the Gannett boys writing about his press man skills ... did these guys watch Iowa tape at all ?

Here's a video breakdown vs Ohio State that I thought was great perspective on him and the defense he played in... listen for the word "zone" and how many times it's mentioned.

Michael Cohen just wrote that article about how much Pettine needs his corners to play press, and the gist of the article was, from Antonio Cromartie’s point of view, all the corners need to do to be successful is physically dominate the WR on every single play. Like, no big deal! Easy peasy! nuts((

that's a legitimate point, tw.

well that video was a downer. i hope he was having an off day.

so we drafted a guy who's really good at playing zone to play for a dc whose propensity is to use cbs that play press man-to-man. i guess this will be a good test of that claim that pettine designs his defense around the players that he has (and not the ones he wishes he has like the last guy).

my excitement factor just dropped a level or two.

I'm sure hoping Gutey and Pettine know what they are doing. I'm not gonna get too down yet. I still am trying to stay positive because this team can't afford to whiff on CBs any more.

He dropped in the draft because of everything stated in that video, Iowa plays mostly cover 2/3 with off man mixed. They DO NOT nor have they ever played true press man at Iowa. Where the heck the GB press and some bloggers came up with any of the smoke they've been blowing I have no idea. My bigger issue on both Alexander and Jackson is when they fail...they fail big. Jackson also has a bit of a whiff issue when tackling, that he'll have to fix in a hurry.

Now all this all might be a bit meh if you can generate a consistent pass rush without putting these 2 on an island. Can we ???? sh))
