I don't know a ton about the DBs projected to go top half of round 1, but if Gutey goes in that direction at 14, who should be the guy?

Derwin James seems a no brainer if he's there, so is Minkah Fitzpatrick. Assuming both are gone the next two seem to be Denzel Ward and Joshua Jackson.

Ward seems a little short for the position but definitely seems like the quicker footed, better technique, better cover guy of the two.

Jackson has great size and you can't question the ball skills or the turnovers, but most of what you see is the splash plays, not sure how good he is covering guys down in, down out. I want to think he's a Marcus Peters type without the off-field BS, but I don't know.

So who would you rather see at #14 of the CBs? Who fits best what our D needs?

What happened to McFadden? He was highly touted to start the year, but FSU went in the tank and I haven't heard much about him since. He's a bigger CB and seems like he would have been a nice bookend with King. Will Mike Hughes or JC Jackson blowup the combine and work their way into round 1?

Love mike huges but might be a little high. Kid competes and is a good tackler. Doesnt give seperation and is a stud returner. A little small but i think hes as good as ward.

Jackson might have more athletic ability then any cb in this draft but character and off field crap will be an issue. Id love to take a flyer on him in the 4th but that armed robbery (dropped) is a bigger deal then pot or something else

The ward highlight shows the college refs at least let the dudes play. Half those highlights gets a flag in the league.

If you play straight press man without anything else then you can risk on McFadden. He has zero to no off man and zone skills. A lot of scouts don't like his route recognition and his effort in run support is just meh. He and Jackson from Iowa should be 2nd rounders in reality but they'll come off the board in round 1 out of need.

I thought James was projecting as a Safety for the draft?
I suppose if they let Burnett walk, that it would make perfect sense to take him, if he's still there.

As for Ward, I wonder if his size would be hindrance in Pettine's defense where Pettine wants CB's to play a lot of press-man. He's a wonderful cover-corner, but would bigger WR's physically dominate him? I don't know enough to say yay or nay on that.

I'll throw Carlton Davis' (Auburn) name into the ring here. Not sure where to rate him just yet? Walters lists him as the 3rd best CB in the draft (with 1st round potential). CBS has him at #121, and DraftTek has him at #101.

The Combine should tell us a lot more, but at 6-1/200 (and long arms) he could be a solid fit as a press-man corner for Pettine/GB, and he could be had mid-late 2nd round or maybe early 3rd.
