Marquette has owned the Badgers as of late, winning two of the last three meetings at the Kohl Center alone heading in to Saturday’s rivalry matchup. A less than full-strength Badgers team going against a red-hot MU team didn’t look good on paper heading in to the game. It was even worse than expected as the game went along though, with Marquette blowing out the Badgers 82-63 at the...

Poor shooting, even worse - horrible defense. The Badgers are in trouble this year. Lots of young, talented players, but several nearing the end of their time at UW, aren't firing on all cylinders. I think it was foolish letting Reuvers sit for 5 games, then burn his red-shirt year. The loss of floor time over those 5 games is critical in his development.

I'm not a bit convinced that Trice is going to have anywhere near a decent year.

Going to be a bad year, and Gard can't do much about it.

I personally believe we are seeing Gards recruiting issues. It has been three years now. These are now his players. We will see in the next couple years but I think Gard may be the issue.

I hope you're wrong CB. I see some good choices, some a little less than what we'd expect, and a couple of whiffs. Davison, King, two top level guys. I even see Pritzi as a pretty good role player. I have a feeling Ford will start to show more, and Reuvers is going to be one heckuva guy out there with Happ, and when Happ's not in the lineup. Next year we have at least one guy who could step up.

My problem, today, is that they haven't settled on a point guard to run the team, since Trice is stumbling. Then there's the fact that they need to put Reuvers into the lineup a lot more with Happ, to give them some serious rebounding size.

But, despite all the hope I offer, I do understand what you're talking about. So far he hasn't produced a winner with 100% of the guys he's brought into the system. I hope what we're seeing is just a growth issue.

Gard may be part of the problem, but recruiting is only half the story. Lack of player development is the other half. Now, maybe some of these players just aren't able to get better, but if so, then maybe he really is recruiting the wrong guys. What's killing this team right now is the complete lack of development of the junior class. Iverson is OK, but still has absolutely no outside shot after 3 years. The other 3 are almost as poor today as when they arrived on campus - Van Vliet, Thomas and Illikainen.

Even with contributors you don't see the improvement. Happ still can't shoot free throws or hit a shot outside of 8 feet. Pritzl still is not hitting outside shots with any regularity. Meanwhile, a kid like Sam Hauser seems to have made a nice jump for Marquette over a year ago. Guys not getting much better is what is bothering me the most.

I think Gard needs to get 2 more years to show that this year is an aberration. There is some in-state talent to recruit and by then this freshman class should be at it's peak. After that, it's time to start heating up the seat.

I couldn't agree more. It is puzzling as to why these guys haven't improved. It's like they're still freshmen. Is it coaching? Is it the offense and defense we run? All three that you mentioned have so much raw talent, from what I've heard over the last couple years that it seems almost impossible that they haven't moved forward. Especially since these are three guys that a lot of people saw enormous potential.

It bothers me some that they haven't improved. I'd like to know why. They seemed to have so much going for them, coming in.
