With Their Third Round Pick, GB Selects Chris McClellan, DT Missouri

i hate the fact that there were two other nose tackles ranked higher than him, and we used two picks on him, when nobody was likely to take him until the next round. i guess i'll just have to trust that gute & company know what something that i don't know. sh))

I don't know how you can say no one was likely to take him until the next round.

I'm not posting this to dunk on the Bears, evals were wildly all over the place and some teams made some really bizarre picks. But then again, if you like a player and you have him ranked or grouped or whatever they do, you take him.

okay. that doesn't mean they were right. let's not forget who they took when creed humphrey was still available.
I'm not saying they're right, my post was more in a "wow that's crazy, they probably had a Rd 2 grade on him, which seems very different than everyone else"

If Gute had passed on Cisse and taken McCellan at 52

Agree. I think mock drafts and "consensus" boards often leave us with more certainty of actual player value than we probably should have. I'm often guilty myself. Teams have their own boards that are very different based on fit, scheme, need, and physical preferences.

Plus this seemed like a really "flat" draft from the middle of round 2 through round 4. It kind of became a "pick your flavor" situation. McClellan and Orange seem like they'll be forever compared by Packer fans. McClellan brings some pass rush (6 sacks vs 0 sacks for Orange) while some write-ups seemed to indicate the Orange was a more stout run stopper. Maybe Gannon indicated he'd like a more disruptive guy in the middle rather than just a guy who eats blocks.

Interesting pick, he certainly can control and close gaps for the linebackers to work, which was an issue all last season when Wyatt wasn't there. I think for a 3rd round pick, they got decent value, and he has upside.
