Defensive Coordinator Candidates Thread

Sounds complicated to the point I’m not sure the current secondary could handle it.
We have two starting corners, one of them dogs it and one of them won't/can't tackle. I don't think this stuff is overly complicated but you need the guys to run it. X, Williams and Bullard is a real nice group to work with, Parsons is all pro, Cooper has all the talent in the world but if I'm a serious DC candidate for the Green Bay Packers I'm asking ML what's the plan in the secondary and up front. Maybe an internal hire doesn't care but anyone with self respect should, otherwise you're being set up to fail.

In terms of timing, the Hafley hire was announced on January 31. Joe Barry was announced February 8. If Leonard (AFCC) and Morris (HC interviews) are really on ML's list then I wouldn't expect a hire until late next week at the earliest, or the following week. If ML has reached out to their reps and its "thanks but no thanks" then maybe on the earlier side of that window.

Jonathan Gannon runs a versatile, "multiple" defense heavily influenced by the Vic Fangio system. It primarily features a 3-4 base or a 4-3 alignment, prioritizing a 4-man pass rush while utilizing match-quarters coverage in the secondary.

  • Coverage: Relies heavily on match-quarters (Cover 4) to limit big plays, with corners operating in a mix of zone and man coverage.
  • Fronts: Utilizes a "multiple" front, including a 5-man "Tite" front and, occasionally, a 4-man front (nickel).
  • Pressure: Generally, a low-blitz, "passive" approach (rarely blitzes), trusting the front four to create pressure, though he adapts based on talent.
  • Simulation: Uses simulated pressures (showing blitz but dropping defenders) and 3-safety looks to confuse quarterbacks.
it's a 34 not multiple at all... Zona he tried running 4-2-5.... pushing the safety/LB in the box so 5-2-4, it failed.
