The money has gotten so grotesque in college sports. I know this is "old man shakes fist at cloud" stuff, but the dude who donated $290 million to MSU athletics is a moron. The guy could build 10 rural medical clinics and staff them for 10 years with that money. nuts((rant)

Will see people shortly not giving AF about college football when you have 6-12 teams trying to buy there way to a title every year and the rest of college football are just trying to get to a bowl game and be happy.

Same as in MLB that they are likely facing a lockout over a cap after next season because people are tired of the Dodgers just buying there way to a title.

Just to update the info on Colton Joseph as the stats above are for 2024, I believe.

For 2025, Joseph started all 12 games for ODU. He was 173 of 290 passing for 2624yds with 21 TDs and 10 INTs. He also ran for 1007yds on 158 carries with 13 running TDs.

ODU played Indiana last year and lost 27-14. Joseph was 11 of 22 for 96yds , 0 TDs & 3 INTs. He also ran 10 times for 179 YDs and 2 TDs. They also played VaTech and won 45-26. Joseph was 16 of 22 for 276 YDs, 2 TDs & 0 INTs. He ran 8 times for 63 YDs and 1 TD.

Joseph, who has 2 years of eligibility left, isn't a top tier talent but fits Grimes scheme since Grimes likes a QB who can run. There is supposedly also interest from Florida State, but at this point, who knows what is true. Unfortunately he might be the best UW can do, with their track record. He might be good enough to give UW a chance of getting Bowl eligible against a much weaker 2026 schedule, assuming they can get 3-4 WRs in the portal. We'll see how it plays out.

My issue is paying $2 million for this guy who clearly is a run first QB and not much of a passer. Now if this was best UW could do and they were paying him few hundred thousand ok I can accept that but for 2 million a year I am expecting top tier talent otherwise just stick with Carter Smith for what you would pay Joseph to come to UW.

The money getting thrown around is crazy, but $2mil just won't get you a top tier guy, especially not to UW with it's recent history. Not really a comparison between Smith and Joseph. Smith has started 4 games and passed for 200 yards. Joseph has started 20+ games and passed for 4000+ yards. Not saying he's great, but I don't think the team can move forward with just Smith at QB.

You have to look at who he was competing against as a whole, which basically takes the luster out of his numbers, not sure he's the best UW can do out there at all.
