Packers 2025-26 Season Thread

wasn't it basically plastic carpet on top of concrete?
The 60's 70's and 80's ball was before my time but I think they had Tartan Turf, Omniturf and Astroturf, and yeah, they were basically thin green carpet with maybe 1/4 inch padded backing over concrete. Maybe that's why there were no ACL tears back then, your bones broke before the ligaments could be damaged on their own.

I played on that 80's turf... painted concrete. Hurt like hell

I just don't get turf. Play on grass.
maintaining a grass field, especially ones that are indoors like that new orleans stadium is pretty difficult. grass tends to die indoors with no sunlight. but i agree that if the stadium is outdoors, grass is the ideal surface. but even then you have fields like in chicago where they don't do a good job of maintaining the field and that can be more treacherous than turf.

i'm surprised that so many college stadiums use turf instead of natural grass. i guess it is because it is easier and cheaper to maintain.

Be like AZ were you can take the field outside and give it sun. Only issue there was during the SB were they over watered the week of the SB and the field got messed up bady.

we're talking about something that happened back in 1972 here. that arizona stadium didn't even exist. yes, i am aware that thee are new technologies for grass field indoors, including grow lights. there's even a soccer stadium that actually moves all of the field underground where an automated system of grow lights and irrigation keeps the field in top condition.

Could be like Chicago still just go with natural grass and once winter comes paint the dirt green LOL.
