Badger Men's BB Thread 2024/2025

Not WI Badger but a WI team. Did not know this fact.

this morning the today show hosts revealed their picks to win the ncaa tourney, and dylan dreyer selected the wisconsin badgers to win it all. so we are all set!

Kid from Green Bay named Gatorade Player of the year and kid from Oshkosh named the state's Mr Basketball. Neither one going to UW. Seems WI can never get the top talent in the state.

Another sad ending to a Badgers season. High seed again that gets upset in 2nd round. I have zero confidence in this program. They don't have the NIL to get the top talent. They have to settle for the talent that does not have a lot of NIL choices to come to UW and even now will those kids say hey look at this program it always folds with a early exit in the NCAA tourney. I may not have a lot of choices but I want to go to a program that has better coaching.

Looking it up Gard buyout is $12 million

After the 2025-26 season it's $8 million

After the 2026-27 season it's $4 million

Most likely they keep him around for next year due to the buyout at $12 million but I think another early exit or no NCAA tourney next year that $8 million becomes an acceptable buyout amount.

Badger fans bitch too much...top 32 team and got to the big 10 title game. He's not going anywhere. They have other programs with bigger issues right now.

Yup, Gard isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. On the list of issues at UW Athletics, men's basketball is near the bottom right now. Gard made the dance and won a game before losing to a top-25 team by 2 points. That would be the equivalent of the football team missing the playoffs but getting to a solid Bowl game. That would be first on Mac's list. How about the hockey team winning "something". How about women's BBall winning ANYTHING. I'm sure there are issues with some of the other "minor" sports, not to mention bringing back baseball.

I'm not thrilled with Gard, but I'm for giving him some time to fully develop and recruit to their new offensive scheme, which the players seem to like better and is certainly more fun to watch. Yes, he'll be able to recruit high level players and pull kids from the portal, despite this loss. Hell, there are probably plenty of portal kids eager for a chance to play at UW after seeing Tonje go from an unknown guy who was on nobody's radar to being second team All-American and getting looks from NBA scouts.

Mac's comment about not funding Women's BB this week was shocking.... UW has a lot of issues.

Bucky Basketball came to a disappointing end. Unfortunately, their fade at season's end cost them favorable positioning int the Dance, and another horrendous slow start doomed them. Surprisingly, they fought back and had a chance. Don't know why the play wasn't for Tonje to drive hard and pass it to an open shooter, but it wasn't, and it wasn't my call.

I think Bucky over achieved this year. I think there are building blocks for the future. Not amazing lights out super stars, but solid hard working guys. We'll see.

Gard is safe, and it has nothing to do with buy outs. Right now he's fielding the only competitive men's team. Maybe we didn't get past the final 32, but nobody else is truly breaking the top 50.

Womens basketball team hired former Missouri womens coach Robin Pingeton who over 6 years her record was 28-66 in the SEC and never got into the NCAA tourney.

Really that is the best you can find? The WI AD seems he is not making the best hires.
