He was one of Wisconsin wrestling’s most touted recruits in recent years, now Jesse Thielke has requested his release from the University of Wisconsin.

Thielke, who has been with the Badgers since the 2012-2013 season posted the following to his Facebook page on Friday afternoon:

A four-time state champion for Germantown High School, Thielke posted a 35-28 record for the Badgers, including an NCAA Tournament appearance a season ago.

Thielke took an Olympic redshirt this season and is set to compete for a spot on the US Olympic Team in April.

Though he was dominant in folkstyle, Greco-Roman is Thielke’s showcases true prowess. He was a three-time junior world team member and a FILA Junior National Champion. He has a junior world bronze medal to his credit and placed fourth at the 2012 US Olympic Team Trials.
