Green Bay replaced one rookie guard with another and released a rookie wideout on Wednesday.
The NFL is a fickle business, and covering the NFL is just as fickle. On Tuesday, we tried to project the Green Bay Packers' current depth chart as of the present time. Naturally, on Wednesday the team made a trio of roster moves, signing one player and waiving two more.
First up, we'll discuss the cuts. Wide receiver Devonte Robinson from Utah State and offensive guard Cory Tucker of Slippery Rock were the casualties, and are leaving Green Bay after a few weeks on the roster. Robinson was among the Packers' first round of undrafted free agent signings, while Tucker signed his deal on May 9th following an invite to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The cuts come on the day that the second week of Organized Team Activities was scheduled to start and one day prior to the team's second open practice of the year. We hope that these two young men will have a chance to continue their pursuit of an NFL career with another franchise.
One of those released players was immediately replaced on the roster, however, as the Packers signed guard Lucas Patrick, an undrafted free agent out of Duke. Patrick also attended the Packers' rookie minicamp a few weeks ago, and prior to that camp we identified him as one of the more notable players trying out there. Patrick stands 6'3-1/2" and weighed in at 313 pounds at his Pro Day, where he bench-pressed 225 pounds a solid 29 times.
The net effect of these three moves takes the Packers down one spot to 88 players on their 90-man roster.
