Lowest Point in your Packer Fandom?

Yes, I know...that is the point. It shouldn't have been advertising. That is something you thought, I thought, we all thought, was something done to "honor America" when in reality it was nothing but a business transaction. That is disgraceful to present something in a manner that purports to be something from the heart with honor, when it's just like a commercial for Cialis. Disgusting.

The fact the Packers were involved in this and taking in the good will that this was done from the heart is shameful.
Just don't see why your upset. It's not about honoring America. The Packers are providing a service beyond just saying here is a service man or women home from war they are giving them advertising to promote them. Any business would be stupid just to say ok because your the milarty we won't charge you a dime but give you all this free adverting to help recruit more kids to sign up.

Every branch of the military spends money on recruitment in the form of sponsorships.
That said. This was not a sponsorship. $50,000 in 2014.? Please. The packers spokesperson said the guard payed full price for the sponsorship. ? That's laughable. I don't blame the guard for spending $$$. For recruitment but for the packers to say this was a sponsorship is bad PR

Well then there must be some dumb business out there because it happens a lot. It's called community outreach. The fact that it was only $50,000 in 2014 baffled me. It was not a sponsorship. This was an event that the Packers promoted. There were other sponsors so why carte $50,000 to the National Guard ? I can understand why some are not happy with this. If you look at the $$$$ the team got per year it was in no way shape or form a sponsorship. Not at the NFL level.

I think it's a very good use of "taxpayer money" to get people interested in the Guard and active duty military. I'd much rather have it spent this way then on some of the "other" things that the government wastes money on. Remember, these guys are protecting you, the other guys, not so much.
I have no problem with it. I just dislike when it turns into the "they protect you " argument when it's not needed. As if you have a different opinion, it makes you unpatriotic. You could justify every penny spent on defense as "remember, subproject you ". Let's not make that the point of the discussion. Its been a long time coming that stuff like this comes out. We've seen, in then last 10 -12 years where it's become the politically correct thing to always thank the military on every holiday and such, regardless of what holiday it is. Same here, pressure to look "patriotic" and not "unpatriotic" may have pressed some to accept the money without question. That's fine by me. A sponsorship is just that. IF the Guard wants to recruit that way, I have no problem. I also have no problem if people choose to question the Packers involvement.

Let's ask the owner. Oh, wait...rofl(

Seriously, I know the 'real' topic is just barely Packers, but I don't think it's really hurting anything at this point in the football year. Some good thoughts about 'real' Packer stuff in this one, though, so perhaps a continued 'lowest point in watching the Packers play football' or some such would do it.

Is this really a "packers" topic or a social/political/ personal belief " topic ?

This one has nothing to do with politics for me. It has to do with the fact our Green Bay Packers organization hid behind the appearance of good will while all the while taking money as a paid advertisement. Completely cheapens what I thought I'd seen.

In my mind, our org was and at least should be above such things. Take the money, fine, but don't pass it off as if this is something the Packers do because "they care" about our military. I find that shameful and unbecoming of what I thought I knew about our unique little franchise.

Meh ok... if you say so. But it's not really about Packer football per say as much as personal opinion regarding GB marketing tactics.
My point was whether said topic belongs in Curly's pub rather than Packer football. But for now I'll let it ride as is.

September 2005, Reggie White's number retirement at Lambeau. Facing a crummy Browns team, Packers D needing a big stop on 3rd and long to get the ball back and try to take a lead, crowd at fever pitch chanting "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!" Nick Barnett gives up a completion to the TE, game essentially over.

Or a few years prior, the dog killer comes to Lambeau and leads a visiting team to a playoff win for the first time in Lambeau history.
