The former Carolina cornerback is now on the market despite only a handful of teams having enough cap space to sign him.
Green Bay Packers fans and execs alike are looking forward to next Thursday, when Ted Thompson and his crew are scheduled to make the first of many selections in the 2016 NFL Draft and add to the Packers' roster. It is a virtual certainty that at this point, they will not be making any additions between now and then.
However, one team likely will. That's because the Carolina Panthers, who had placed the franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, just rescinded the tag from their All-Pro corner, making him a free agent. He is certainly set to cash in big, and he would have been the recipient of an insanely expensive contract had he been available at the start of free agency. Instead, only a few teams will have enough room under the cap to sign him to a deal near his asking price, which will probably come in over $15 million per yer.

Kenneth Dixon and C.J. Prosise are arguably the top receiving backs available in this year's draft, and either one could be an excellent fit in the Packers' offense.

Yes, but the team just gave him $32 million guaranteed to be the starter for two years, and apparently have moved up to take a rookie quarterback who will end up sitting for those two years. Good move for that rookie QB? Probably. But giving up all those picks this season for a player who will be riding the bench won't help them win games this year.

If the Packers did make a run at Norman, it would be more contrary to Ted Thompson's normal strategy than anything else he has ever done. Besides, with $10.6 million in cap space, the Packers would be right up against the cap even with some creative contract structuring.
