University of Wisconsin wrestling coach Barry Davis announced Tuesday that his team will forgo its annual intrasquad scrimmage this season.

“We will be using the performance at the early season tournaments to determine who will be representing the Badger Team during the dual meet season,” Davis said in his weekly “Tuesdays with Barry” newsletter. “It is far more important to see who performs the best against other teams than who wrestles best against a teammate.”

There should be ample time for wrestlers to audition in the early going, three of the Badgers’ first four events of the season are tournaments. Wisconsin begins its campaign November 13 with the Journeymen Classic in New York.
