It wasn't to be. The Badgers fell on hard times against Texas in their Final 4 match up. Texas was by far and away, the better team last night. They deserve a return trip to the finals against Nebraska.
Based on what I saw, out of Texas, they should beat Nebraska on Sunday. But, that's not a given. Nebraska is pretty darned good.
Just about everything failed for the Badgers, including repeatedly bad services, which gave Texas points without even having to return the ball. You don't win games at this level if you can't serve well enough to make returns difficult.
Wisconsin's height advantage evaporated very quickly in the first set, as the Longhorns placed their shots without having to deal with the Badger blockers. The only set won by the Badgers was #2. After that, the Longhorns shut them down, and developed double digit leads in both the 3rd and 4th sets. You don't beat a team that good when you dig a hole that deep.
What's concerning is that the Badgers lose most of their talent on the court, after yesterday. Let's hope Kelly Sheffield and his staff can find some talented you players out of high school, and through the portal, or next season could be fairly dismal. Nebraska returns everyone, and Texas doesn't lose that many of their talented players. They will be two of the teams to beat next year as well.
