With spots almost full in the small 2017 recruiting class, summer has been prime time to focus on a handful of key players for the class coming up this February. It has also allowed this coaching staff to get a jump start on things for the 2018 class and beyond.

One player that has been at the center of the Badgers coaching staff’s attention has been 2018 River Rouge (Mich.) safety Reggie Pearson Jr. According to our recruiting partners at Badger247, Pearson Jr. almost nearly committed after an unofficial visit to campus on Wednesday.

It was the second visit for the Michigan native, this time bringing his family along according to Evan Flood’s report.

With offers from schools like Wisconsin, Syracuse, Iowa State, and a host of MAC programs already, Pearson Jr. wanted to pull the trigger for the Badgers. However, the coaching staff wanted him to take a few more looks around and make sure this was the right choice for him.

He met with head coach Paul Chryst, who gave him that very advice instead of taking his verbal commitment at this time.

“He wants me to see some more more schools,” Pearson Jr. “He’s confident I’ll come back.”

It was undoubtedly a bold move considering teams are taking commitments from eighth graders these days, but also shows that Chryst and Co. are confident in what they are doing on the recruiting trail and for the players they are coaching.

Rather than have him commit now, only to see another school and decommit, it gives the player and school some time to make sure everything is right and not just living in the moment of a visit to campus.

That said, it appears the 5-10, 180-pound junior-to-be isn’t going to wait too much longer before making a commitment to the school he really wants to be at. Don’t be surprised if his name is the first to join the 2018 recruiting class for Wisconsin.

What do you expect when he has offers from Badgers compared to rest of those schools? It's like being offered a Lexus or a Pinto to drive.
