The Wisconsin Badgers’ annual Cardinal and White spring game is just about 24 hours away. It means time to make plans to catch some Badgers football under the lights at Camp Randall.

Well, that is if you want to sit through an hour of practice before getting to the good stuff — the scrimmage.

Earlier this week we took a look at the five players we’d be watching the closest on the offensive side of the ball.

Today, it is the defenses turn.

Given another offseason of change (what else is new at this point for UW’s defense), eyes will be on first-year defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard. The Badgers legend has just one season of coaching experience, but a wealth of NFL and college knowledge to draw upon.

What will be different about his approach to the 3-4 defense and how will the players respond to him as a coach? Those are very good questions, only one of which we’re likely to get insight in to on Friday night. In fact, watching how he coaches during the hour-long practice portion of the Spring Game may be the most enlightening part of what will be seen on Friday night.

But, any good coach will tell you, it is all about the players. So, which players will we be watching the most on UW’s defense? Let’s take a look.
