Our View: Williams can flat-out play, and while early comparisons to other players are something we try to avoid it is unavoidable to notice how much his skill set reminds us of that of Sojourn Shelton coming out of high school. No doubt that Williams is bigger, but he sees the game well and has great ball instincts. Like Shelton, he also has great leaping ability (registering a 6 foot, 6 inch high jump this past high school track season).

The Badgers are going to be in desperate need of cornerback depth and Williams’ skills suggest he will get every chance to prove he can be an earlier contributor. Don’t be surprised to see his playing time increase as the season goes on if he shows well early in fall camp.

Either way, this player has the one-on-one coverage skills to be successful on the island UW likes to play its cornerbacks on. Williams didn’t allow a single touchdown to be thrown at him his entire senior season, and that kind of confidence will be needed if he is to get on the field early.
