Packers Defensive Issues

Watch other defenses attack and you'll see quite a difference with a Capers led defense. There is no freshness or innovation. It's stale. The Blitzer literally runs into the opposing offensive player.

I have less problem with the blitzes and pass rush than I do with the 3rd down coverage and the middle of the field coverage in the secondary. There is always a player open just past the 1st down marker. That can't be the defensive players fault every time. It has to be the scheme that is called leaving openings for the receiver to settle in for the conversion. It happens time after time after time.

The Packers don't have the worst defensive team in the NFL, but on given days, they can look like they deserve that title.

How much of the problem is Capers remains to be seen. I do believe at the end of this year he will be replaced, ending up the scapegoat for all that's wrong with the team.

That said, there's no saying we'll do better on defense because a new coach could come in with a 4-3 defense and most of our better players might not fit into those schemes.

I think we've hit the wall with this team as it stands. The investments in our defense through draft picks has pretty much been mediocre at best for quite some time.

Let the record, as stated, stand for itself.

We have been talking about this for the last 5 years. Why are these stats a surprise?

It just proves once again that Capers should have been gone long ago. It also shows why we have not won multiple SB's with AR.

Defense wins championships!

What I've been saying for several years now. I've watched Packer teams with personnel on defense that was far superior to teams that could score against them. The reason wasn't poor execution, or mistakes, it was the way the defense was designed, and how easy it is for top OCs and QBs to take advantage of being able to change plays prior to the snap.

It's sad this has gone on this long. It's not going to get better, as long as Capers is there. Even if they did miraculously win out, and win the Super Bowl, it wouldn't convince me Capers is a good coach. Too much bad juju from past seasons.

We've talked about this issue for years it seems. Dom has been around way too long and it shows on Sunday's. Even his new looks aren't new anymore.

Mike is so fixated with Dom and the old Pittsburgh style defense I am not sure he has the ability to let go. A loss last week would have forced the issue, now I doubt we see much more than a couple of trivial assistants get let go and another meh TT draft.

Until this past off-season I thought we might pretty easily transition to a 4-3.

Matthews could stand being moved off the line. He's been productive the past two weeks, but against two of the poorer o-lines in the league.

Perry has only very recently looked comfortable as a 3-4 olb.

The only place I'm not sure is our d-line. How exactly Daniels and Clark would carry over, and who would play the other DE.

I don't think there would be much trouble. Lowry would fill in as a DE and M. Adams could play DE and move inside for pass rushing. We're going to get an edge/DE in the first three rounds anyway. Martinez could man the middle with another LB taken in early rounds (run and chase OLB). Just would like to see a new DC to bring some passion to the defense.

So if Capers is gone would Todd Bowles who is likely out with the Jets be a good replacement as DC?
