On the first day of off-season, my GM have to me an outside lockdown CB
On the second day of off-season my GM gave to me two pass rushers and an outside lockdown CB
On the third day of off-season my GM gave to me three solid linemen, two pass rushers, and an outside lockdown CB.
On the fourth day of off-season my GM gave to me four D coaches, three solid linemen, two pass rushers, and an outside lockdown CB.
On the fifth day of off-season my GM gave to me FIVE GREAT DRAFT PICKS
Four D coaches

I can't really follow Crease's effort, but I'll try.
The free agent list has some help, but I don't know enough about some of those players to say they are great fits. The biggest problem is that I don't see a 3-4 type pass rusher on the list. That's not unexpected at such a premium position.
My 2 takeaways from FA would be a RT and CB. You do have some options there. At RT you have some guys who can help. Maybe a guy like Chris Clark who is likely not part of the plans in Houston. Similarly, at CB you have a number of choices. Maybe a guy like Amukamara if you want to commit to some real money and play for a winner. You also have some older vets out there like Grimes and Joseph who might be available at somewhat more modest numbers.
Then, just go draft the 10 or so best football players you can find regardless of position.

Kinda "eye". My problem with TT was that he didn't do that often enough.
You could predict positions he'd draft early because he'd put himself in a tough position so often. He'd go into the draft down on OTs and there you go - a couple of early OTs. He'd be short CBs and there you go - CBs in the early rounds. Same with S the year he took HHCD.
My problem with TT's drafts were that sometimes he probably passed on a better football player because he'd go into the draft with "needs" and then he'd fill those needs early. I can't really remember the last pick taken in the first couple of rounds that was just a luxury pick, or a true BPA pick.

What I'm not certain about is if Thompson was drafting guys that McCarthy approved, or not? If McCarthy is/was part of the decision making on who they pick, we may be looking at the wrong guy for finger pointing. Coaches can be pretty strong on the "need issue."
We're going to find out in 2018's draft how much clout McCarthy has, and how good of an eye he has for talent. Then we're going to see just how good he and his coaching staff are, at utilizing that talent.
It's going to be a "no excuses season" for him, I'd guess.

I don't feel like drafting was the issue. Ted was as good as anyone in the draft. He had hits and misses. They all do. The issue was filling needs when they arise like when we lost every CB in a 3 week span including your number 1 in Shields and nothing was done to try to fill the gap.
Actually it was and BG addressed it today. He stated the roster needs to be more competitive than it is...even late in the yr when guys are banged up. He wants it so if your not doing well than the 2 deep guy can come in and take your job. That's not happening with a bunch of UDFA.
To me that statement is reflective on drafting better and getting a higher quality player.

Maybe it means that he won't believe in quantity over quality which was he way Ted seemed to go. Maybe he trades some of the 12 picks he will have and make moves up.
