Into The Future....QB

When Wolf was drafting QB's while GM most guys coming out were pro style types and could adjust to the pro game quickly. Not today. My guess is 75% if not more run a spread or read option system. The transition to the next level is more difficult.

I think if your guy is there take him. It's such a shallow pool. If you feel good about a guy in Rounds 3-4 this year grab him
Bingo.. you have little choice but to get your guy now.

They've got Hundley, and they had Callahan. Mike was pissed when they lost Callahan.

It's a pity Hundley was hurt this past preseason, man I would have liked to have at least seen a little more of him.

I did get a chance to see him play live at Lambeau last season during the Eagles preseason game. He didn't look too bad at all.

I felt the pain losing Callahan. I felt he was the better fit to the type of offense McCarthy runs. Not a knock against Hundley, just my choice of which one fit the offense better.

Well maybe the loss of him won't hurt so bad IF McCarthy 8s let go and we get a new head coach and offensive system in place.;)

These are the kind of sentiments that I just don't get.

We've had both TT and MM say that the other is responsible for the roster. TT said that cutting Sitton was on McCarthy because MM has that control over the roster.

So which one was/is responsible for the 29 wide receivers on the roster and only 2 RBs? Who actually canned Callahan?

I still don't think Callahan is anything special he is a long term project QB who currently sits 4th on the depth chart for the worst team in the NFL and if RG3 comes back will likely be cut.

Callahan reminded me of Flacco. He never appeared as anything great, but has the right tools to be a game manager, and can make big plays now and then. Watching Callahan, during preseason, reminded me of how a QB who is malleable can be a QB for the future. As for cost, Callahan comes cheap. Flacco didn't. A mid 1st round pick.

I've always believed that players with certain abilities can be molded into the player you want, simply by training them to be that person. It's a 3 to 4 year project, and you have to be patient. If you do, you end up with a system QB, and that can be pretty good.

In Hundley, I see a guy who's more polished, and is ahead of Callahan on the learning curve, but in all honesty, I didn't see him being a year ahead of him when they were both taking the field.

None of it matters, because we will never see the Packers bring in another young guy and get the magic they did with Rodgers so early on in his career.

It wasn't really all that early in his career. He sat for 3 full seasons behind Favre and then struggled in his first year starting.
