OK, I made fun of the pick in shout but this kid is clearly a technician. Kicks deep when needed, kicks directionally and with placement when needed. Has a quick get-off so you don't need to work on his footwork and timing. As a bonus he can kick-off. I still would have taken a position player, but if this guy can hold down the punting job and do it well for the next decade, then at least it won't be a waste.

We still need to see how losing a step on his kicks will effect his distance and consistency in hang time.

This spells the end of the Justin Vogel era... You don't spend a 5th on a P and then cut him.

Interesting pick by Gutey. Continues to subtly put his stamp on the team and give us a slight hint of how he feels about certain positions on the team.

His dad is from WI and went to UW... Spent some summers in WI... That must be why they took him :)

Confused by this pick. Vogel seemed to have a solid season. 5th rounder could be used on another OL.

Yeah, which franchise record(s) did he set?

2017 stats: 71 punts, 3,155 yards gross, 44.4 gross average, 41.6 net average, 2 touchbacks, 26 punts downed inside the 20 (26.8%)

vogel set a new packers record for net punting average, breaking the previous high mark of 40.3 set by tim masthay in 2015. vogel didn’t break masthay’s record of 45.6 yards gross, and some people said the only reason he broke the record for the net average was because of the packers outstanding punt coverage.

and while vogel succeeded in avoiding touchbacks, his inside-the-20 rate was not great. however, both of those stats can be explained by the packers’ offense sputtering out or going three-and-out deep within their own territory.

It 'seemed' like Vogel had a decent year, but in review he did have a little trouble with consistency. To be honest- I was mad when this was the pick. Then I settled down and thought about it. This kid is projected to be the best punter we've had since Hentrich and I was pissed when we let him go those many years ago. Special teams are 1/3 of the game, I guess it's time we invested in it besides F/As.
