The Badgers miss out on the weekend's second commitment at wide receiver as Demari Simpkins verbally pledges to Utah.

It was a good start to the weekend for Wisconsin Badgers recruiting with the additions of two players on Friday and Saturday, but they failed secure a verbal commitment from one more targeted recruit on Sunday.

Hollywood (Hallandale), Fla., wide receiver Demari Simpkins verbally pledged to Utah over the Badgers via Twitter on Sunday morning.

Here's where Simpkins is ranked by the major recruiting websites:

  • 247Sports: Three stars; 0.85 rating; No. 922 overall; No. 131 wide receiver; No. 117 overall prospect in Florida
  • 247 Sports (composite): Three stars; No. 762 overall; No. 113 wide receiver; No. 104 overall prospect in Florida
  • Rivals: Three stars; N/A overall, No. 89 Florida
  • Scout: N/A

The 6'0, 176-pound receiver has a double-digit offer sheet, including South Florida, Utah State, Cincinnati and Bowling Green, among others, but was choosing between Utah and Wisconsin in his final two.

Simpkins committing to Utah cooled a weekend streak of good recruiting news for Wisconsin, as it was reported by 247Sports on Friday that former Clemson linebacker Kellen Jones would play for the Badgers in 2015. Four-star, Kansas City (Rockhurst), Mo., athlete A.J. Taylor verbally committed to Wisconsin on Saturday.

Wisconsin appears to still be in the fold for several other wide receiving targets, including Southlake (Southlake Carroll), Texas, receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey; Arlington (Lamar), Texas, receiver Kofi Boateng; Fort Lauderdale (South Plantation), Fla., receiver Anthony Julmisse; and Columbus (Walnut Ridge), Ohio, receiver Malik Harrison.
