5: That’s the number of returning All-American’s on Wisconsin’s roster. UW has three offensive linemen named All-American’s last season in Michael Dieter, Beau Benzschawel and David Edwards. Additionally first-team All-American linebacker T.J. Edwards returns and star sophomore running back Jonathan Taylor is back. All five of them have been named to one or more preseason All-American team heading in to the 2018 season as well.

4: That is the number of sophomores starting on the Hilltoppers offensive line. Unlike the hosts, Western Kentucky has a lot of issues up front on the offensive line. They come in to the season starting four sophomores, who are replacing four starters that graduated from last season’s team. Wisconsin is also in rebuilding mode, but on the defensive line, where two of three starters are new and young. This is going to be a key matchup to see who controls this game.

3: That is the number of starters Western Kentucky has had at QB since 2010. After Mike White’s graduation this offseason, no question was bigger for the Tops than figuring out a really inexperienced quarterback situation. It’s a major question mark because redshirt senior Drew Eckles is listed as the starter for the opener and has never made a collegiate start. He’s played in 17 career games though. Eckles has thrown just 24 passes in those 17 games as well — hardly numbers to confirm excellence or sub-par play.

2: Wisconsin and Western Kentucky will meet for the 2nd time in history. The last time these two teams met, WKU wasn’t an FBS program and the game was rescheduled due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Wisconsin won the rescheduled game 24-6 after having to move it from the weekend after 9/11 to 9/29 that season.

1: Wisconsin is one of just six Power 5 teams to average 10-plus wins over the last 14 years. Just to give you an idea of how consistent the Badgers program has been, the other Power 5 teams to accomplish that feat are as follows — Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia and USC. UW also has 141 wins in that span, which is tied with USC for fifth on the list.
