Wily Peralta earned the nod despite a 2015 season in which he went 5-10 with a 4.72 ERA while missing more than two months with a strained left oblique. He’s also struggled mightily this spring.

Only a little surprised based on last year and this spring, but he's the most veteran of the young pitchers. Probably don't want to put that pressure on Nelson or Thornburg. If Garza had been a team guy last fall I think they might have given him the opening day start, but you can't reward a guy who isn't a team player.
