With Wisconsin ranked 9th and Michigan State ranked 12th in the latest AP Poll, there is a very good chance College GameDay will head to East Lansing in Week 4 to attend their second Wisconsin Football game of the season. However, a few things need to fall into place.

First of all, it would be very helpful if Michigan State is able to beat Notre Dame this week. A win in South Bend will certainly push Michigan State into the Top 10. There is almost no chance that ESPN passes up a game between two undefeated, top 10 teams, each owning marquee non-conference wins. It will be a bit more complicated if the Spartans lose.

College GameDay traditionally doesn’t go to see a team coming off a loss. If Michigan State gets blown out, then there is no chance they will get a visit from the esteemed pre game show. But if they are able to keep it close, Gameday may still come, especially considering that the rest of the Week 4 games have problems of their own.

The competition for College GameDay in Week 4 features a trio of SEC games. No. 24 Arkansas (barfs) takes on No. 17 Texas A&M at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. That game isn’t as worrying as the others, because it’s extremely doubtful that ESPN will want to go to a neutral site game in an NFL stadium when there are good games on actual college campuses being played.

No. 23 Florida visits No. 15 Tennessee in a game that could potentially decide the SEC East. This game is extremely intriguing, but College GameDay already went to Tennessee in Week 2 for the Virginia Tech game. While that game wasn’t actually on the campus itself, College GameDay may consider it too close.

The most concerning matchup is No. 16 Georgia at No. 19 Ole Miss. Ole Miss already has one loss this season and hosts No. 1 Alabama this Saturday. They are 8.5-point underdogs, so it isn’t likely they are able to spring the upset for the third consecutive season. But if they are able to dethrone the king and Michigan State loses to Notre Dame, GameDay will be boarding the flight to Oxford faster than you can blink.

So here’s the short version (We’re just going to assume Tennessee and Florida take care of their respective cupcakes)

  1. Michigan State beats Notre Dame and Alabama beats Ole Miss or Missouri beats Georgia: GameDay comes to East Lansing.
  2. Michigan State beats Notre Dame and Ole Miss beats Alabama and Georgia beats Missouri: Slightly tougher call since it is E(SEC)PN, but GameDay probably still comes to East Lansing.
  3. Michigan State loses to Notre Dame and Alabama beats Ole Miss or Missouri beats Georgia: Gameday goes to Knoxville, Tennessee
  4. Michigan State loses to Notre Dame and Ole Miss beats Alabama and Georgia beats Missouri : Gameday goes to Oxford

So this week, root for Michigan State and Alabama (or Missouri), as hard as that is to do. Oh, and like always root against Arkansas. Just because. #Karma.

*oh and caveat…can ESPN stop themselves and the rest of CFB on this caring about 2 completely meaningless polls? Fun to talk about…completely useless IMO.
