UW football will host two primetime Big Ten games in 2016

As the ESPN/ABC networks announce their primetime slate of college football, the Wisconsin Badgers find themselves as hosts for a game for the first time in five years. Unlike most of the past though, the Badgers will host two primetime Big Ten football games in 2016.

For the first time since hosting Nebraska in its first Big Ten game ever back in 2011, the Badgers will also play host to the Huskers in primetime this upcoming season. However, it won’t be the first game under the lights in Camp Randall for 2016.

That honor will go to the Badgers’ first matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes since the 59-0 trouncing in the Big Ten championship game back in 2014.

The Buckeyes will be coming to Camp Randall for a 7 p.m. (CT) kickoff on Oct. 15 and the Huskers will make the trip to Madison for a game that will kick at 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. Both games will air on an ESPN network to be determined.

Nebraska and Ohio State just so happen to also be the most recent foes to come to Camp Randall under the lights, and it went well for UW. The Badgers dispatched Nebraska 48-17 in that Big Ten opener in 2011, while also taking care of then No. 1-ranked OSU in 2010 by a 31-18 scoreline.

It was that win that propelled the Badgers to a Big Ten championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl, and who can forget how it all kicked off — literally.


Night games at Camp Randall have tended to be special events, with Wisconsin holding a 12-4 overall record in games under the lights and a 6-3 record in Big Ten contests in primetime slots.

They are the only two kickoff times that have been announced on the Badgers’ schedule.
