Pre-Season Week 2 ~ Official Packers vs Broncos Thread

To a point I agree. However I don’t doubt many of these guys are trying.. But they simply are not talented enough to make an impact in the NFL.
there were a lot of instances where their effort was in question. the INT that was returned down into the red zone, I think it was #82 (Wilson, TE) showed very little effort in running his route .
And rather than make a solid tackle, many of the defenders were punching at the ball, trying to make a big play, thinking that would help them make the team.

Welch is pushing hard for a roster..spot! Pride of Central WI

Definitely seems to be earning it but what’s the numbers game at ILB? Quay, Cooper, McDuffie, Hopper, Wilson. Is 6 a lot for ILB in a 4-3? At this point (and a big if), Cooper may well start on IR if he doesn’t get around to playing soon, so that would certainly clear a path for Welch.

Possblie this year breaks the 20 year streak of a 1st year UDFA making the team. Right now not sure any make the team.

Cutting Welch would be a mistake. He has those skills of leadership that they need at levels below starters. I don't see much of that in our linebacker room to be honest.

I was watching him on the field, and between plays, and he was a catalyst out there, getting people into position before the snaps, and giving directions. One of the few positives I actually saw in the depth chart to be honest.

I'm not saying any of this because he's from Iola, but from the perspective of me, as a coach, wanting guys on the field who can lift others to be better. I think he has that ability, and I have a hunch he may have a solid future in coaching after the playing days are through.

so, if 31 players were withheld from this travesty, and the final roster is 53, that means 22 of the players that we watched last night are going to make the team. maybe we get a few castoffs from other teams, and maybe we find a kicker and back-up qb, but do you think there were 22 players on the field last night that deserve to be on the final 53? i sure didn't see that many.

There were a number of players who played last night who are strong contenders or solid locks to make the team. Some only played a handfuk of snaps. Here are the guys who played last night that I don't have a problem adding to the 53:

Locks
Van Ness
Enagbare
Cox
Brooks
Wooden
Hopper
E.Wilson
E.Williams
Bullard
Rhyan
Monk
Whelan

Probable
Oladapo
A.Johnson Jr
Melton, Heath, Dubose (2 of the 3)
K.King
Welch
Glover
Dillard
Pratt

That's 21 guys with NFL experience, or recent picks. Add a long snapper and kicker not yet on the roster and you're at 23. It's likely one or two of the inactives don't make it (Jarveon Howard and Keshawn Banks?) and maybe a guy or two gets poached from other team's cuts (QB & OL?). Not all of these guys are horrible though there are certainly a number of ho-hum guys on that list. You can build a solid team from the inactives and the guys above.

I'm not gonna even ask what kind of snaps those are....
