Post-game GB Beats JAX 30-27

Packers had 18 takeways all of 2023. So far threw 8 games this season they are at 19.
somebody said in shout during the game "this defense hasn't changed one bit". i know it was said in the heat of battle, and we've all said things that we regret, but i thought it was hilarious.

The defense this year is the difference between night and day from the past. It's less than a handful of players away from being one of the top defenses in the NFL. It's also a fairly young group, and that helps. What it lacks most, at this point, is depth. It's that depth that allows you to rotate players into the game, so they can keep fresh legs under them. What we saw yesterday was that lack of depth, and guys having played their guts out play after play, and worn down. Give Hafely the additional horses he needs in this next draft, and I see them reaching towards the top.

On offense, there are little things that still bug the team, but there are also big plays in them when they need them most. When was the last time that we saw two different QBs over the course of two weeks, engineer last second drives to get into position to win games, after it looked like we were cooked? Those QBs need blocking in front of them, runners that can augment that part of the comeback, and people who can catch the ball in crucial situations, to make it happen. They're there, they're young, and they promise to get even better. Experience will help, and a little help in the front five will probably be part of the draft plans when it's the Packers turn to pick college players. We might even see a little help coming from the FA side as well.

I think we can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to our kicking game. Whelan is a solid punter, and his holds are pretty darned good. The way he got that low snap into position for the game winning kick showed he had ice water in his veins. When I watched that ball sail through for the win yesterday, for McManus, I saw a guy who probably saw his career not only on hold, but possibly over, earlier in the season, and he has a new lease on life in football, and I don't see him failing. I think the Packers ink him for two or three more years within the next 3 or 4 weeks. They'd be wise to do it.

There are mistakes out there. Some of them are just plain dumb. Bungled coverage, failure to contain the edge, and gap integrity at times on defense. On offense, drops that shouldn't happen but receivers fail to hold on, and drops that happen because Love put the receivers in a position that if they make the catch, they're going to be asking people what truck hit them for a few days. Sometimes, blocks look like bullfighters who fear getting too close to the bull, and at times, players for getting the rules on when you start the play, and draw penalties.

All of it happens, but darn it, this is one heckuva good team, and every time they put up a W without Love out there, I began to ask myself just how good this team might actually be? They're doing it without the guy who operates the machine, and that's amazing.

Anyhow, until someone shows us differently, this is one heckuva promising team. They're really going to be tested next Sunday. With the Lions traveling to Lambeau Field, it's going to be a good one.

Except for the players, the coaches, the performance and the results - it's damn near exactly the same.

Without reading the previous posts a couple of things I noticed. When the offense let the clock run down like Aaron used to do they did not play well. When Jordan got the ball snapped with about 6-7 seconds left the plays were mostly successful.

I won't say they were 'overlooking' the jags. But I think they underestimated them.

I wish they would have put Willis in earlier and I'm sure I'm not the only one. PLEASE don't play Love next week if he is gimpy. I know that Love is a better QB when he is healthy. But not when he can't step into his throws.

McKinney was outstanding again. Of course McManus would get a game ball from me again.

I think there are some things we can all agree on. First of all, McManus is coming through when needed, and secondly, Malik Willis is one helluva relief pitcher.

The last time I saw a guy who was like this goes back to George Blanda and the Raiders of the 70s. The guy could step up off the bench.

Next? Josh Jacobs for being able to get that tough yardage between the tackles. He's a real work horse.

How about Tucker Kraft? He's a fighter out there. He gets better every day. He's gonna be special before he's through.

Watching Romeo Doubs make some of those catches is awe inspiring. He can move those chains when asked. That sideline catch was pure beauty. And the pass itself? Awesome. Love's got chops. Need him healthy.

Kudos to the offensive line after looking pretty bad for most of the game. When it came to crunch time, they stepped up and got the job done. They gave Jacobs creases, and showed Willis he'd have time to make those pitches.

Scary situation? Our defense went from totally awesome early in the game to looking like they had more holes in it that places for holes. They quit tackling, lost that pass rush, and for some reason couldn't cover granny with a walker for half the game. It did not make sense.
If I had one big disappointment it was the defense. Last week they played like their hair was on fire the whole game. Yesterday not so much.

Saw a X post of a Jets fan complaining about rodgers letting the clock run down to near zero and having then to waste TO's because they can't get the play off in time. Glad we don't have that issue anymore. Also shows ML trying to take the blame saying his play calls were long to defend Rodgers waiting to 1 every time to snap the ball was BS and it was all Rodgers every time waiting to try to read the defense to the very last second.

The Jags offense had been playing better than their record. For example, in the Bears game in London their WR dropped 4 sure-thing TD passes from Lawrence. He had been throwing the ball well overall, and yesterday they hit and caught those tough passes. Also historically the Jags have won 3 or 4 in a row after returning home from a London trip, they always seems to play well in that scenario. I'm more disappointed in how flat GB's WR played for most of the game, they could not shake coverage against what had been a very poor Jags secondary.

Another thing is the musical chairs after Evan Williams was injured. He went down, so they moved Bullard back to S, Nixon back to the slot and then filled in outside with Stokes who was later benched for Valentine. I'm not sure what Oladapo's status was but in retrospect it may have been better for them to keep everyone else the same and just replace one player rather than do musical chairs midstream where everyone played worse at these positions where they hadn't been playing.
