Get ready for more opportunities for Trader Ted to live up to that nickname down the road.
Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson is notorious for a few things. His dry sense of humor, for example, or his strict adherence to his draft-and-develop philosophy.
Over the years, another thing Ted has been known for is stocking up on compensatory draft picks, awarded to teams who lose players to unrestricted free agent contracts elsewhere. In 2016, for example, the Packers are projected to get a pair of extra fourth-round picks as a result of losing cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Davon House to free agency (thanks to Over the Cap for the projections).
Finally, Ted's other draft-day fascination seems to be trading draft picks, and with a new rule change that just was approved, he may have more ammo to wheel and deal during those three days in the spring in the coming years:

Yes, we at Acme Packing Company are aware that Ted Thompson has made just a single trade in the past two years' drafts (the move up to select QB Brett Hundley earlier this year). However, in the nine drafts Ted ran between 2005 and 2013, he made a total of 27 trades, an average of exactly three per year.
Any compenstaory picks awarded in 2016 for the losses of Williams and House will not be able to be traded as the provision kicks in for the 2017 draft. Still, with several key Packers likely to hit free agency this coming offseason (Mike Daniels, Casey Hayward, Nick Perry, and others), there's a good chance that the Packers will stock up on a couple of extra picks for 2017 and Ted will have more ammo to make some deals.
All of that assumes that Thompson is still at the helm of the organization in the spring of 2017, of course. However, if he is not it would almost certainly be his decision, as he is currently signed with the team through the 2018 season.
