Unrestricted Free Agents (you can nitpick the numbers, but it is anyone’s guess)

Julius Peppers 1 yr 4M
TJ Lang 3 yr 18M (don’t have to move your family discount)
Nick Perry 3 yr 27M
Jared Cook 2 yr 8M
Datone Jones gone (pressure but no production)
Micah Hyde gone (gave up too many 3rd down conversions, very marginal)
Eddie Lacy 1 yr 3M ( could replace Barclay if his weight balloons)
JC Tretter regrettably gone
Don Barclay gone (finally)
Brett Goode 2 yr min
Christian Michael gone

The harder part is putting on the TT FA hat (it hurts). Here goes:

DJ Hayden CB Oak - 1.5M

That’s it. People mention House as a possibility, but I don’t remember FAs coming back to GB once they leave. Would like to see more activity, but it is TT. Will depende on who gets cut from other teams. TT loves his comp picks too much, especially since you can trade them now.

The draft: comments from Walter Football, my comment follow the *,

1st - Obi Melifonwu, S, Connecticut
Height: 6-4. Weight: 219.
Projected Round (2017): 1-2.
2/11/17: Every year, there are some size/speed freaks who rise up draft boards, and He will be one of those prospects for the 2017 NFL Draft. Melifonwu has great size and also is a fast defender. He was superb at the Senior Bowl as he showed real coverage skills in the passing game. He is not tight and has the ability to contribute in man coverage. He created a real buzz and could go off the board late in the first round.
*this is my talent over need pick. Very few holes in his game. If he attended a power 5 conference school he’d be a top ten pick. Can play CB in a pinch (better than Gunter) and would hopefully fill that hole in the middle of our defense. Great size. He’s my HOF pick.

2nd - Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA
Height: 6-0. Weight: 202
Projected Round (2017): 2-3.
2/11/17: Moreau was one of the stars of the East-West Shrine week as he impressed teams with his size, physicality, and coverage skills. Moreau is a tough corner who is capable of running the route to prevent separation
*all the tools plus fulfills TTs PAC12 love affair

3rd - Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama
Height: 6-3. Weight: 312.
Projected Round (2017): 3-5.
2/18/17: Tomlinson was a good run stuffer for Alabama and really improved late in the season with more plays in the backfield. Tomlinson had a good week of practice at the Senior Bowl and wowed teams in the interview sessions.
*upgrade from Guion. Will help push the pocket which will help Peppers and CMIII.

4th - Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo
Height: 5-10. Weight: 208
Projected Round (2017): 3-5.
2/3/17: Hunt averaged 5.6 yards per carry in 2016 for 1,475 yards with 10 touchdowns. He also made 41 receptions for 403 yards and a touchdown. Hunt was excellent at the Senior Bowl, using his speed to slash through the defense. He was very impressive as a receiver out of the backfield.
*very nice all around back. Has carried more weight before, but 210 is his optimum IMO.

5 - Trey Hendrickson, DE, Florida Atlantic
Height: 6-4. Weight: 270.
Projected Round (2017): 3-5.
2/18/17: Hendrickson was one of the stars of the East-West Shrine with a strong week of practice. He did well in the pass-rushing one-on-ones and notched a lot of wins. He recorded 13.5 sacks as a junior. Hendrickson could be a mid-round sleeper.
*here is an edge rusher, great motor and good size.

Comp 5 - J.J. Dielman, OT/C, Utah
Height: 6-5. Weight: 300.
Projected Round (2017): 7-FA.
2/11/17: Because of an injury, Dielman was moved to center for the Utes. That could end up being a better fit for him in the NFL, and he turned in quality performances for the first five games of the year. Things went off the rails though as Dielman suffered a foot injury and missed the rest of the season. *Versatile, plays four positions.

6th - Austin Rehkow, P, Idaho
Height: 6-3. Weight: 215.
Projected Round (2017): 5-7.
2/4/17: In 2016Rehkow averaged 41.6 yards per punt and made a long of 60 yards. He also kicked field goals for Idaho and made 26-for-29 with a long of 50 yards.
Rehkow has been a model of consistency over three seasons. He averaged 47.8 yards per punt as a freshman and sophomore. Rehkow had long punts of 73 and 65 yards, respectively, so he has a powerful leg as well. As a junior, Rehkow averaged 45.7 yards per punt with a long of 65 yards.
*Stop the parade of clowns at punter. Our special teams need this pick.

7th - Treston DeCoud, CB, Oregon State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 205

DeCoud is just a competition pick for me. Size/Speed ratio is desirable. TT loves PAC12 players.

Interesting off-season. Most of it seems about right but I'd put my money on Hyde and Tretter staying with Peppers and Lang leaving. TT likes to keep his younger players and the older guys tend to fall by the wayside pretty quick. I think he moves on from both Peppers and Lang. I could be very wrong, and at least in the case of Lang, I hope I am.

I sure as hell hope TT does more than this in F.A. Not that I am against adding a CB, but man, this would be underwhelming.

You almost had me spitting up my drink when I saw a safety in Rd 1. After reading the whole thing, it makes sense, but at first I'm thinking that's not really a position where we need help as much as some others. You are correct though that somewhere in the first couple of rounds you need to ignore what you need and take the most talented player regardless of position. I worry a little about a guy as tall as Melifonwu in coverage but he's been effective so you have to assume it will translate to the NFL. I also worry that he's gone up the board awfully fast from a Day 3 guy to a mid-round guys to now a late round 1 guy. Maybe that's where GMs like TT have mostly had him all along?

Really like the 2nd-4th Rd guys because they fill needs with what looks like good value. I'll be interested in seeing how well Moreau runs but he "looks" fast enough.

Not as thrilled with the 5th rounder. Worry he's another square peg in a round hole. Productive edge rusher as a DE who probably can play OLB so has to be a situational guy. Still, if you get an effective situational guy in Rd 5, it's not a bad pick.

A little worried about Dielman. Seems more like Tretter than Lang and that has me concerned that the OG position won't have enough help. In your scenario of course Lang comes back so this guy replaces Tretter. I'm OK with that assuming Lang returns.

YES, YES, YES on the punter. I normally don't mock specialists, but hey, once every decade or so you need to draft one to get quality. This kid is a quality punter and could anchor that position until 2030, taking it off the board as a concern for many years.

Sure, bring in another CB in the 7th, we need the competition.

Overall a really solid draft, though I might have liked to have gotten a true ILB in there somewhere considering we don't have much there and didn't sign one in F.A.

I understand about spitting up when you saw safety. It isn't a need right now. But watch some of this kids film. He moves like a corner with a small LBs size.
It also brings up the talent over need conversation. We complain that TT doesn't get talent, but we get in the 'need' mindset too easily. I'm not sure there is an Edge player that fits that slot and CBs- well, the top ones are gone and the next tier seems to stretch to our second round pick. I'd like to see an ILB too, but I would want an upgrade- not more of the same and an upgrade means top two rounds this year.

Just seems like after the top 15 (?), the next tier goes on for about 50-60 guys. Pick your poison. Right now I'll take the Jedi- OBI.

Nice work. Yea I would say the fa money is low to very low. No way Perry takes a short deal for 7 mil.

Love obi but he would have a hard time getting on the field. If a top corner or a good pass rusher is still on the board it will be hard to pass

After that it fills alot of needs. Nice later picks also

Considering how Capers uses Burnett as a hybrid ILB/S the 1st round pick is not crazy at all, in theory. tc(
