Team Moves: Randall Cobb - traded/cut; Jordy Nelson - extension; Clay Matthews - extension (2018 cap savings - $22M)

Extension on Rodgers contract (at some point before season starts) - lowers his 2018 cap number to $14M = 2018 savings of $6M

Free Agency Signings: Mo Wilkerson, Donte Moncrief, Davon House, Crockett Gillmore

DRAFT:
Round 1 (14): Leighton Vander Esch/LB/Boise St. (Grade 6.18) just .03 ahead of Harold Landry
Vander Esch allows Pettine to move Matthews and him all around the LOS. Creates great flexibility in scheming against opposing offensives

Round 2 (45): Lorenzo Carter/Edge/Georgia (Grade 5.85)
250#'s w/ 4.50 speed off the edge. Carter, Vander Esch, and Matthews will reak havoc on offenses.

Round 3 (76): M J Stewart/CB/UNC (Grade 5.70)
Physical/tough and proficient at press-man & off-man. I'll take that.

Round 4 (101): Dalton Schultz/TE/Stanford (Grade 5.72)
TE who can block and catch. Could see a lot of PT early.

Round 4 (133): Rashaad Penny/RB/San Diego St. (Grade 5.80)
Packers need a big power back. Penny showed unexpected speed in his 40 at the Combine.

Round 5 (138): Godwin Igwebuike/S/Northwestern (Grade 5.50)
Started 3 years for Wildcats. A team leader and very smart.

Round 5 (172): Tre'Quan Smith/WR/UCF (Grade 5.53)
Long armed, smooth glider with sneaky speed (4.49)
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/trequan-smith?id=2560104

Round 5 (174): Kylie Fitts/Edge/Utah (Grade 5.35)
Strong w/ short area quickness/change of direction. Would be a good fill-in for when Perry gets his next injury. nailbite)
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/kylie-fitts?id=2559807

Round 6 (186): Andre Chachere/CB/San Jose St (Grade 5.36)
Another position flexible player for Pettine, and gunner replacement for Janis.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/andre-chachere?id=2560151

Round 6 (207): John Franklin-Myers/DL/Stephen F. Austin (Grade 5.47)
3-4 DE with size (6-4/292)/speed (4.75)/strength (26). Played for smaller program.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/john-franklin-myers?id=2560139

Round 7 (232): Skyler Phillips/G-C/Idaho St. (Grade 5.36)
Funny quote, "Arms look like thighs." Interior lineman who is position flexible.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/skyler-phillips?id=2559830

Round 7 (239): Brett Toth/OT/Army (Grade 5.24)
Needs to add more mass/muscle, but he athletic and coming from Army, you know he has discipline.

Lots of different names than I've seen in Packer mocks. LVE is sure getting a lot of love lately, not sure he is 14th, but apparently Packers are interested in him. Two biggest question marks for me are Carter in 2nd and Penny in the 4th. Their numbers would put them in the spots you have them, but things I've read question whether they will comprehend a Pro playbook. Penny has to be able to block a little or he'll never see the field.

Otherwise- nice job.

I would hope Penny would be coachable in picking up pass-pro. But that is a legit question if he’s never had to before.
Id worry less about Carter because Pettine tailors his defense to what players can absorb. He wants them to play fast and think less.
Good stuff! Thanks.
