Though a pair of second-year pass catchers had nice games on Sunday, Green Bay really needs its stars to step up.
in recent years, the Green Bay Packers have given their young role players ample opportunity to make a difference on the team. Injuries across the roster have dictated that, but often those players have been up to the challenge - just think back to all the players who were on injured reserve in 2010 and how guys like Desmond Bishop, Andrew Quarless, and Frank Zombo played well in relief.
Last week, two second-year receiving options got into the act with the rest of the receiving corps struggling, and they responded with some big plays. However, they were among the few players who did so, as the rest of the team had issues with the basic tenets of football in the Packers' loss to the Lions.
Those are the primary storylines in today's cheese curds, as the Packers' veterans couldn't put together a passable performance in even the basic aspects of the game.

Mike McCarthy said the team "left some big-play opportunities on the field" on Sunday. A couple of them were big drops by receivers who could have had some serious running room, and a few of them were just poor throws by the quarterback.

That was the buzzword at his presser on Monday, but he mentioned that a few people are having major issues with blocking, tackling, and catching. He didn't name names, but we can probably infer at least a few of them.

Not only did Justin Perillo make a touchdown catch, but he also hauled in a beautiful catch on a beautiful pass up the seam. With Abbrederis, McCarthy praised his practices in recent weeks, and based on snap counts it's clear that the coaches feel he is more mentally ready than Jeff Janis.

Jacksonville beat Baltimore, but the officials missed a false start on the game-winning field goal. That would have run 10 seconds off the clock and driven it down to zero. At least these two teams aren't jockeying for playoff spots, but this could very easily help decide some draft position at the end of the year.
