Green Bay's veteran leaders look forward to big seasons ahead, as does one particular young defender who is still re-learning the game of football.

The Green Bay Packers' 2015 draft class was a bit of a surprise. After losing cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Davon House to free agency, fans expected the team to draft a cornerback, maybe two, over the course of the 2015 NFL Draft. Few thought that they would go back-to-back with corners in the first two rounds.

Both of those players, Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins, had their moments in the sun last year - Randall made a few critical and timely interceptions after assuming the starting role late in the year, while Rollins picked off a pair of passes in an early-season game against the Rams. Each of them found the end zone once as well.

This year, Rollins is going through the offseason with his eye on the Packers' primary slot corner job. Sure, Micah Hyde is still around and LaDarius Gunter has been getting snaps inside, but Rollins might have the best pure instincts and ball skills of any of them. It should be exciting to see how he continues his development after playing just one year of college football - unfortunately, that development is slightly stunted this spring thanks to an injury he suffered on day one of OTAs.

In today's curds, we find Rollins speaking to reporters, plus some items about the Packers' veterans and some players who could contribute on special teams.

Peppers is ninth on the all-time sack list, but if he has another typical season of 7 or more sacks, he'll pass John Randle, Richard Dent, Jason Taylor, and Michael Strahan to end up in fifth place.

It's funny that a year after being concerned about being down to their third or fourth option on kickoff returns, the Packers now feel like they have as many as five or six players who can be big-play guys on kickoff returns and another three or four who can do the job on punts.

Hyde's absence in the secondary was overshadowed by the fresh vacancy at kick returner, where Hyde himself had taken over for rookie Ty Montgomery, who won the job out of training camp. With Montgomery hurt and Hyde unable to run, the Packers turned to their third option, Jeff Janis.

What followed was a 70-yard return — on his first attempt, no less. The Packers, plastered against the bottom of the NFL barrel in kick return average the year prior, found a gem in Janis, whose three returns of 40-plus yards tied for third in the league — and he only had 14 attempts. By season's end, the Packers improved more than 20 spots in kick return average and finished second in the league in explosive returns.

They will use Janis but saying it's open may light the fire under some of the other guys. Not to mention the way the media and team personnel a talking about Janis he may be the number 2 receiver this year. ;)

Thanks for the good laugh. Janis being a #2 this year no way. Could he work his way to being #3 perhaps but don't know how much playing time he gets unless a injury happens to 4 guys ahead of him or Adams and Montgomery are duds.

If it were the regular season they'd tape it up and have him back out there. Where it is OTA's there is no need to take a chance. Let it heal and be ready for mini-camp.

My thoughts exactly. No need to put him out there until it's fully healed. He'll likely be ready for mini-camp.
