The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Jim Henderson on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation.

Henderson was sent to minor-league camp March 20 to continue to strengthen his surgically repaired right shoulder. The Brewers didn't make an official roster move at the time, as they waited to decide whether they would option the former closer to a minor-league affiliate or place him on the disabled list.

The 32-year-old posted a 2.25 ERA over four innings in four spring appearances, but his velocity was reported at just 88-89 mph, a far cry from the 95.2 mph he averaged as Milwaukee's closer in 2013.

Henderson will remain in Arizona to pitch in extended spring training games until he is able to continue his rehab in the minor leagues.

After recording 28 saves with a 2.70 ERA in 2013, Henderson began experiencing shoulder discomfort last spring training. He lost his job as closer to Francisco Rodriguez before Opening Day and struggled to a 7.15 ERA in 14 appearances before being shut down in May.

Dr. James Andrews performed season-ending surgery to clean up Henderson's right rotator cuff and labrum on Aug. 19.
