you have more faith in gute than i do, that's for sure. it doesn't cost anything to match a trade offer knowing full well that the other end of the trade will consider the likelihood of where the picks will fall. gute looks like he made an effort without giving up anything at all. "oh well, that one got away". if you are competing against a team that is very likely to have higher picks, you're going to have to pony up something more.He did it with Khalil Mack, he offered the same package as Chicago and Oakland chose Chicago because they assumed the picks would be higher. Packers have plenty of capacity for cash out the door, Love’s contract was taken care of last year (i’m assuming a contract adjustment with any trade).
