2024 NFL Season Thread

He did it with Khalil Mack, he offered the same package as Chicago and Oakland chose Chicago because they assumed the picks would be higher. Packers have plenty of capacity for cash out the door, Love’s contract was taken care of last year (i’m assuming a contract adjustment with any trade).
you have more faith in gute than i do, that's for sure. it doesn't cost anything to match a trade offer knowing full well that the other end of the trade will consider the likelihood of where the picks will fall. gute looks like he made an effort without giving up anything at all. "oh well, that one got away". if you are competing against a team that is very likely to have higher picks, you're going to have to pony up something more.

Gute gave Aaron Rodgers the biggest contract in NFL history a year before getting rid of him. I don’t know if he will pull it off but it’s not outside the realm of possibility and Garrett is the type of player you move mountains for
If the Browns said ok here is what we want

2025 1st and 2nd
2026 1st and 3rd
Edgerrin Cooper and Jayden Reed

would you give that up?

i don’t think you go through the trouble of getting cash flow approved for performative reasons.

Me? No, no players. He’s gonna get monster money too which will cut into the trade comp.

Assuming a trade happens, I think comp will be less than people think. Closer to the Adams deal. Garrett is going to command a contract north of $35m AAV.

I don't know if trade will happen. Look at Rodgers he wanted out in 2021 but GB just threw money at the problem to keep him happy a couple more years. Browns could do the same.

True, may well happen. But he also cited constant losing and that's not something that the Browns seem capable of fixing, and really can't fix as long as Watson is in that building.

yeah, when you are one of the best in the nfl but you play on a team that just plain sucks year after year, it must be hard to stay motivated. i don't blame him for wanting to get out of there.
