Practice Starts at: 10:10 AM CT

General:

  • Packers officially announced WR Randall Cobb and OT Dennis Kelly signings.
  • No pads today
Injuries: OT David Bakhtiari (PUP ACL), TE Josiah Deguara (PUP ACL), TE Dominique Dafney (PUP KNEE), RB Patrick Taylor (PUP FOOT), LB Ray Wilborn (COVID), S Henry Black (NFI), DT Kingsley Keke (NFI), CB Kevin King (NFI), OLB Za'Darius Smith (NFI), CB Will Redmond (NFI), LB Isaiah McDuffie(NFI)

Offense:

  • Big news at Packers practice: First-team All-Pro LT David Bakhtiari is fully dressed and practicing. It's Dennis Kelly in Bakh's jersey. We've been bamboozled. Photo
  • Looks like Cobb is already practicing too.
  • Jordan Love now running jet motion in QB drills. Wouldn’t that be something?
  • New starting OL today. Jenkins Braden Myers Patrick Turner
  • Rodgers with a perfectly thrown deep touchdown to Winfree on a corner route over Adrian Amos and Sullivan, had them both beat by several steps. 55 yard TD. While Winfree’s roster spot got harder this week, dude keeps making plays.
  • Marcedes Lewis 1x1 against Rashan Gary protecting 12. Lewis is so damn good. Just a 6th OL out there.
  • Amari Rodgers still getting first-team reps even with Randall Cobb here. Rodgers just used as the jet motion guy in Matt LaFleur’s scheme. Seems like an obvious role for him, Cobb or no Cobb.
  • Big run off tackle by AJ Dillon behind Marcedes Lewis and Billy Turner.
  • Runyan now in w/ the ones at LG.
  • Laser from Love to Funchess off play action. Tight coverage from Sullivan but just enough heat on the throw to beat him. Love looks much more comfortable with than he did last year. A lot more being thrown in rhythm.
  • Rodgers to MVS off of play action. Quick pass after a quick fake. Saw that concept quite a bit last season. Nice completion. Appeared to get the inside on Eric Stokes.
  • OL Cole Van Lanen getting some work at LT with the backups.
  • Nice hands from Dillon in the left flat. Rodgers got to him after looking deep and not liking it. Nice job from AJ catching away from his body and not breaking stride to turn in a nice gainer. Eventually stopped by Campbell after a 1st down.
  • Rodgers to Tonyan with Savage in coverage along the sideline. Short gain but nice job by Rodgers finding him and hitting him where only Tonyan could get it.
  • I understand there are no pads but Amari Rodgers looks like a scary dude in space.
  • Nauta wiped out a DB on screen.
  • Neither Randall Cobb nor Dennis Kelly has received any snaps in team drills yet. Cobb is on the sidelines talking with Murphy.
  • Rodgers to Adams deep to open team. Jaire held Adams to start, then Savage badly mistimed what might have been an easy pick. Adams hauls it in and keeps running. The ball was *just* out of Savage’s reach. Just a perfect ball. Jaire not thrilled. A lot of bad on that play that ended up looking good for Rodgers/Adams. 60 yard touchdown. Davante Adams shrugs to the crowd after.
  • Rodgers buys time with more great protection from Turner and finds that man (Winfree) over the middle for a nice pickup.
  • Kelly and Bakhtiari switch jerseys. Kelly wearing his 79 now.
  • Rodgers and Davante not on the same page, throw is well behind on a mid level crosser. Rodgers gestures to Davante indicating “my bad.”
  • Runyan does a great job picking up an inside blitz by Barnes and Rodgers fires a no look check down pass to Amari Rodgers into the right flat. Rodgers flashes a smile to the rookie Rodgers after he catches it.
  • Dexter Williams had a little hesitation at the line but it allowed him to set up his blocks and he accelerated quickly for a nice pickup. Williams has had a nice start to camp.
  • Love just threw to Bailey Gaither who gets flipped in the air by CB Shemar Jean-Charles but still comes down with the catch. Photos
  • Love throws a pass behind Kylin Hill who had to spin behind him to try and make a catch. Falls incomplete. Love hasn’t been sharp today (thus far).
  • Looks like Winfree came up with another catch. This time from Love.
  • Benkert with a back shoulder dart to Winfree in developmental period. Winfree keeps forcing his way into the conversation.
Defense:

  • A Jake Hanson/Simon Stepaniak double team on TJ Slaton does nothing. Slaton was still moving in a positive direction. He’s going to be tough to handle.
  • Hard to tell without pads on, but seems to me Rashan Gary would have some serious sack numbers these first couple days.
  • We’ve got a Jack Heflin sighting. Knifes through for a would be sack on Love. Love throws a tight bullet to Funchess anyway who makes a nice catch against Ka’Dar.
  • Preston Smith standing up over center ala Za’Darius Smith and knifes through for a pressure. Aaron Rodgers throws an out route to Jace Sternberger to the left sideline, and Alexander shoots out of a cannon to break it up. Terrific break. Seen that before. Almost an int.
  • Stokes with sticky coverage on Adams on a second-reaction play. Incomplete from Rodgers. Billy Turner fantastic protection against Rashan Gary to allow time for the pass.
  • TJ Slaton is a completely immovable object.
  • Kabion Ento with great coverage on Amari Rodgers over the middle.
  • Rashan Gary gets the edge on Marcedes Lewis on an outside toss to Dillon. No easy task against Marcedes.
  • Showing some 3-safety nickel with Adrian Amos in the box. Vernon Scott back deep with Darnell Savage Jr.
  • Love tries to hit Hill on a shallow crosser but leads him too much and is a bit high. Intercepted by Summers. Defense goes nuts. Easy pick.
  • Nice tight window throw from Love to Lazard but a pbu from Josh Jackson. Great throw and better play by Josh.
  • Now Innis Gaines with a great pass breakup in coverage against Isaac Nauta.
  • Kenny Clark doing Kenny Clark things and clogging up the middle stuffing an inside run.
  • Jaire and Adams with a really fun battle in the slot on a deep fade. Alexander had good coverage but the ball was under thrown. Pass broken up. Davante lost a shoe.
  • Kenny Clark with a would be sack of Rodgers. Really nice practice for Kenny today.
  • Gary finally beats Turner, splits a double team with pure strength and forces a throw away by 12. Alexander was on the sidelines and picked it off out of bounds.
  • Joe Barry’s defense finding their footing a bit in this period. Gary and Clark, specifically, are ruining people.
  • Tipa Galeai is so smooth. Just put Coy Cronk in a blender with a spin move during developmental period. Would have had a clean sack.
Special Teams:

  • JJ Molson goes 7-8 on FGs to wrap things up. Hit from 50 to end it. Wide right from 48

Practice has ended at: 11:54 AM CT

Next event is: Training Camp | July 30th 10:10 AM CT

Press Conference Notes:

Brian Gutekunst
Presser

  • Gutekunst confirmed Rodgers was the driving force behind the Cobb trade. "Without Aaron, we probably wouldn’t have pursued that.” ... “This was a very important thing for Aaron, and that’s why we did it.”
  • No regrets with the handling of exiting veterans in Green Bay. Always done with “class and dignity.” Called it a hard business. Decisions have to be made for the “team to grow.” Understands Rodgers has seen a lot of good veterans leave Green Bay.
  • When asked if there are exceptions for letting a veteran go a year early than a year late, he said: “Not very often.”
  • “No relinquishing personnel control” from the Packers’ side. More about communication between team and Rodgers.
  • Expecting to address Rodgers’ contract to create more cap space in 2021.
  • Said he's comfortable with three quarterbacks on the roster.
Matt LaFleur Presser

  • LaFleur on Cobb: "I think there's a lot left there. We've gone again him the previous two seasons." Notes he had a good day vs. GB last year. Met him last night. "There was a lot of excitement in the locker room." Notes their longtime relationship, too.
  • Matt LaFleur said that Randall Cobb can be a mentor for Amari Rodgers: "I think he's going to be instrumental in Amari's development."
  • LaFleur on Dennis Kelly: Great locker room guy. Started every game last year. "He's a massive, massive man. It's going to be a seamless transition" for him schematically and technically.
    • LaFleur says this is as deep of an OL group as he's ever been around. “There’s a ton of competition in that room. There’s going to be a lot of shuffling during training camp and trying to find the five that fit.”
    • LaFleur on Rodgers' Day 1: "I think he looked great. ... Total command out there."
    • LaFleur said he will have discussions with Rodgers on a daily basis about his plans on which receivers he wants in his game plan that particular week. If he wants Amari Rodgers in the plan over Cobb, he said he'll discuss it with him.
    • LaFleur: “there’s not many guys that can play five positions” like Elgton Jenkins. For now at LT, but feels good with him anywhere.
    • "I think Jordan did a great job. I thought it was cool to see Aaron coaching him up on some footwork things out there. They have a great relationship."

Will be interesting in pre-seson does #12 play or do they give 80% of the snaps to Love

New Packers OT Dennis Kelly plays a trick and makes people have to look twice as he comes out for practice wearing David Bakhtiari's jersey for practice before switching back to his assigned 79.
