2021 Off Season Thread

The #Packers and OLB Za'Darius Smith completed a restructure of his contract to create cap room, source said, allowing the team space to sign RB Aaron Jones.

In his restructured deal with the Packers, Za'Darius Smith had his $5M roster bonus and $9.76M of his base salary for 2021 converted into a signing bonus. That created $7.38M in cap space for Green Bay. Smith's cap # goes up for 2022, when he could be an extension candidate

By the way, Za’Darius Smith’s cap number for ‘22 is now about $28M. They will be very motivated to extend him this year.

They might be as motivated to release him if his production does not have value

The #Packers reduced OT Billy Turner's cap number by $3.56 million, according to a league source, which by my calculations puts the team under their adjusted salary cap of $186.2M.

So, what the #Packers did was turn $4.425M of OT Billy Turner's salary this year into a signing bonus and added two voidable years to the end of his contract. Thus, he was able to give them $3.56M. The deal had to be negotiated with Turner's permission because of the added years.

Depending which site you look at GB is 1.4 to 2.1 million under the cap. I see the packers have a projected 9 million rookie pool but if you add up the current bottom 10 guys who count against the cap that would be about a wash.

They will do more "adjusting" prior to the draft, because they HAVE TO.
I don't expect much, if anything, to happen in free agency.

Sherman had a great record because the Central and North sucked.

McCarthy benefitted from the North sucking. But, he brought home a Lombardi.

Lafleur has benefitted from the North sucking.

We're Title Town. Live up to it

Let me fix this for you. All 3 benefitted from having an HOF QB on the roster in their prime......and let’s be honest the AFC East was not murders row the past 20 years either
