Practice Starts at: 10:15 AM CDT
General:
  • Full pads today.
  • The Packers practicing in their white jerseys for today’s joint practice
Not Practicing: RB Aaron Jones (Hamstring tightness), OL Corey Linsley (Biceps), LB Curtis Bolton (Groin)
Injuries: Matt LaFleur (Achilles-pretty serious), CB Kevin King (Hamstring), CB Josh Jackson (Foot-not serious-NFI), LB Kendall Donnerson (Hamstring), DL Fadol Brown (Calf), RB Jamaal Williams(Hamstring), OL Jason Spriggs (Trapezius), LB Greg Roberts (PUP)

Offense:
  • RB Jamaal Williams’ hamstring feels good enough to go for a little jog this morning.
  • Justin McCray is at center with the starters because Corey Linsley is not in pads.
  • LaFleur goes into the Texans defensive huddle and says hello to a few guys prior to 1s v 1s. Aaron Rodgers and Johnathan Joseph hugged-ish. Everyone playing nice. So far.
  • Tra Carson does his best to pick up some tough yards.
  • McKinney stuffs Tra Carson. Packers trying to establish the run. Nothing doing.
  • Packers with another miscommunication and need to rehuddle. That’s happened almost every day. Not great.
  • Watt vs. Bakhtiari in team. I’d give 69 the win.
  • Really nice play action and throw from Kizer to Moore on an in-cut. Good coverage, throw just beat it
  • Dexter Williams stuffed by Dylan Cole.
  • Lucas Patrick w/ a serious pancake of Carlos Watkins.
  • Tra Carson with a pickup of 3-4. A little better.
  • Great fake from Rodgers. Davante wide open for an easy catch over the middle. Nice gain of 15ish. Video
  • Lane Taylor just drove Joel Heath into the ground on a run to his side.
  • Dexter Williams finds a crease for 5-6. Nice run.
  • Boyle to Sternberger off a boot and Jace shows his RAC ability. Nice juice from the rookie.
  • Xavier Woodson-Luster shoots the gap for a tfl.
  • Turner goes 2-0 with a serious man handle of Angelo Blackson.
  • Alex Light 1x1 vs JJ Watt goes about as expected in 1x1s.
  • Darrin Hall with a couple nice runs. Not major gains but he read the line well on both and got what he could, ran behind his pads.
  • Rodgers had MVS deep. Overshot him
  • DJ Reader goes 2-0 vs McCray.
  • Taylor & Carlos Watkins go 1-1.
  • Mercilus gets the best of Bakhtiari first, DBak rebounds for a win the 2nd time around.
  • Elgton Jenkins absolutely manhandled Albert Huggins in 1x1’s twice in a row. Insanely impressive.
  • Lucas Patrick 2-0 be Brandon Dunn.
  • Joel Heath and Cole Madison go 1-1. Pancake on the 2nd for Madison.
  • Davin Bellamy & Gerherd de Beer go 1-1.
  • Rodgers can’t hit Adams on a little wheel route. Frustrated with himself.
  • Receivers really struggling to find separation in 7x7s. Quarterbacks having to hold the ball a long time.
  • Manny Wilkins does a nice job in the 7x7s making a couple short completions.
  • Lucas Patrick takes first snap at center of this team period. Rotation continues.
  • Rodgers finds Vitale wide open in the flat. No one in 10 yards of him
  • Rodgers goes for EQ deep. Broken up by Jonathan Joseph. Great coverage.
  • Big play Rodgers to Tonyan down the seam.
  • Bryan Bulaga > J.J. Watt during first couple passing plays in 11-on-11s with Rodgers at QB
  • Rodgers finds Adams in the flat for a nice gain.
  • Kizer sacked by at least 3 Texans.
  • Dylan Cole all over Dexter Williams in the flat. Nothing doing for 2nd team offense.
  • Kizer deep to J’Mon Moore who skies for the catch but well out of bounds.
  • Kizer beautiful throw up the seam to Sternberger for a huge completion. Huge hit by the Texans that may have drawn a defenseless player flag in a game. Sternberger holds on!!! Aaron Rodgers looked like he was yelling at the Texans’ D. Matt LaFleur just had a word with Texans CB Johnson Bademosi about it.
  • Rodgers to Kumerow for 6 over the middle.
  • J.J. Watt pulls up at the last second off a stunt that would most likely have resulted in a sack of Rodgers
  • Whitney Mercilus shares a laugh with Rodgers as he escorts him out of bounds on scramble
  • Tonyan beat safety Justin Reid on a skinny post. Caught a perfect ball from Aaron Rodgers, whose trust in Tonyan keeps growing.
  • By the way, tremendous block from Bryan Bulaga against J.J. Watt on this play. Gave Rodgers enough time to hit Tonyan.
  • Rodgers nowhere to go with the football.
  • Great throw and catch from Rodgers to Shepherd on a slant. Big play from Shepherd there.
  • Boyle pressured and throws well low for Trevor Davis.
  • Dexter Williams with a nice catch and run up the sideline.
  • J.J. Watt left the practice field with trainer Geoff Kaplan. Hope he's okay.
  • Rodgers rollout, Texans all over it. Nowhere to go and a throwaway.
  • Rodgers has Allison on a slant but he can’t hang on. One that Allison has to catch.
  • Now Rodgers has MVS wide open on a crosser that should be a huge play but it’s a tad in front of MVS who can’t catch it.
  • Texans CB Lonnie Johnson Jr. completely lays out rookie TE Jace Sternberger, popping off his helmet, then taunts over him. The entire Packers offense then went after Johnson in unison. Can’t blame them. That was a cheap shot. Lucas Patrick first to fray and we have differences. Short but big fight.
  • Sternberger walking into Hutson with Dr John Gray. Sternberger is back.
  • After team drill concludes, Aaron Rodgers and Texans DL Angelo Blackson exchanged some words, face mask to face mask. No idea what was said, but didn’t seem like they were discussing beer chugging.
  • Jake Kumerow heads to sideline holding hand. Possibly same issue from Family Night. Got some different gloves & tape and is about to head back to field.
  • Lonnie Johnson, who lit up Sternberger to start a scuffle (and Davis in ST period), just walked into the Hutson Center.
  • Lucas Patrick with the 1s at LG to start team.
  • The Packers start with a false start
  • Rodgers to MVS down the sideline on a deep out cut off play action. 15 yard gain. DB was turned around.
  • Patrick limps off; McCray in at C
  • Rodgers to Adams on a smoke throw outside.
  • Rodgers to MVS on a quick out. Complete.
  • Huge play alert. Who else. Rodgers to Danny Vitale deep. Vitale makes a contested catch downfield. Great throw, even better catch. Just leaped over Texans ILB Zach Cunningham for a terrific grab on a fade some 25 yards downfield. The legend grows.
  • Kizer picked by Dylan Cole who is having a monster day for the Texans. Horrible, horrible decision and throw for Kizer. Telegraphed to EQ.
  • Fantastic diving catch on a deep out route by Jawill Davis on a throw from Boyle.
  • Tons of check downs in team stuff today. Packers offense hasn’t looked great.
  • Darrin Hall bounces a run outside for a nice gain.
  • Boyle sacked before throwing it away. That does it for practice. Some ups and downs today for GB. Texans probably won this session.
Defense:
  • Tramon & Jaire the starters at CB in base. Savage remains the starter at safety.
  • Tony Brown in for the first snap of nickel.
  • Lamar Miller with a big run vs the Packers 1’s to open things up.
  • Ka’Dar Hollman beautiful coverage on Vyncint Smith for a pbu! Great play by the rook.
  • Lancaster with a run stuff.
  • Texans rb bounces outside. James Crawford all over it.
  • Montravius Adams big run stuff.
  • Rashan Gary says no no no on a stretch run. Completely shut down.
  • LB Randy Ramsey took his jersey off his pads and went inside. Possible injury.
  • Kenny Clark vs Greg Mancz in 1 on 1s is unfair.
  • Za’Darius Smith hits circle against Kalil in one on ones for a W.
  • DeAndre Hopkins with the catch against tight coverage by Jaire Alexander. Video
  • S Adrian Amos bangs up shoulder and is off the field. Amos is back.
  • Za’Darius Smith limps off his second one on one attempt and took his helmet off. Za'Darius is back.
  • GB DL and HOU OL Now working on two man stunts.
  • Watched 1on1 pass rush Packers’ D vs. Texans’ O, refs blowing plays dead quickly so Packers D didn't win many, Z Smith beat T Matt Kalil on their lone matchup
  • First-round pick Rashan Gary continues to impress. He beat Texans G Zach Fulton (a potential starter) with a bull rush and then walked back starting tackle Matt Kalil in consecutive reps in the 1-on-1 rush period.
  • 1st team line: Gary - Clark - Za’Darius - Preston
  • Screen play completely blown up Martinez.
  • Watson nice throw on a deep out to Fuller. Amos in coverage
  • Fackrell and Montravius just destroyed Texans second-team OL. Would have been an easy sack
  • Rashan Gary getting a ton of first-team reps. He and Z can really collapse a pocket in a hurry
  • That front 4 of Gary, Clark, Smith & Smith just absolutely collapsed the pocket on Watson!!!
  • Raven Greene comes off the edge for a sack.
  • Rashan Gary & Za’Darius Smith continue to flash. No matter the opponent.
  • Fackrell is running circles around these second-team OTs.
  • Raven Greene just dropped out of practice with an injury. Tough to tell what it is. Raven Greene is back
  • Ento skies for a deep PBU. Dude can jump
  • Looney & Fackrell converge on the QB for a would-be sack.
  • Defense goes 9-7 on third down. Z Smith, Greene and Fackrell with sacks.
  • Lamar Miller finds a hole inside, Adrian Amos does a nice job filling it. Always in the right spot!
  • AJ McCarron throws a bomb TD to Steven Mitchell Jr. over Will Redmond.
  • Rashan Gary was wrecking things so badly for 3rd string Texans OL he was grabbed hard from behind and kind of bent awkwardly back as he fell. A little slow getting up but he did. He continues to show out.
  • Texans start with a fumbled snap
  • Preston Smith run stuff.
  • Great coverage from Tony Brown on Deandre Hopkins, who gets in his face and knocks the ball away.
  • Za’Darius just powered through for a sack while being held. So impressive.
  • Tra Carson stuffed no gain.
  • Watson to Hopkins. Very short gain. Tony Brown right there.
  • Tony Brown all over Vyncint Smith. Brown had a better chance at the ball.
  • Montravius Adams with his 2nd sack today.
  • Texans TE Kahale Warring just had a big series...taking over the middle of the field. Ultimately...resulting in a touchdown
  • New Packers OLB Markus Jones gets a sack.
Special Teams:
  • Trevor Davis caught 5 punts in a row without ever dropping the previous ball he caught. He was not successful catching number 6.
  • Mason Crosby boots the kickoff for special teams period. Followed by Ficken.
  • Tyron Johnson just had a big KR for the Texans against the Packers ST unit. Looked like he would have housed it.
  • Now another kickoff and another monster return. This one may have gone too. Some serious work to do for Shaun Menenga’s special teams unit.
  • Tony Brown and Texans QB Joe Webb shove each other a little. Webb is a fullback on kickoff returns but wears a red QB jersey while blocking Brown.
  • Now Trevor Davis took a big hit on a kickoff return. Another hard hit by Lonnie Johnson. Slow to get up. On the sideline now without his helmet. Now heading back to the Hutson Center. Possible injury/concussion.
  • Packers kick return goes nowhere and let me know if this shocks you... there’s a flag on the return.
  • Crosby 4/5. Missed wide right from 48. Ficken 5/5. XP | 39R | 45L | 48R | 51L

Next event is: Training Camp: Joint Practice with Texans Tomorrow (8/6) at 10:15 AM CDT
Press Conference Notes:
  • GM Brian Gutekunst on Kevin King (hamstring): Says he’s not too concerned, doesn’t feel it’s long term.Happened at end of family night.
  • GM Brian Gutekunst: "I feel comfortable putting Jaire on anyone we play. He doesn't flinch in those moments."
  • GM Brian Gutekunst: Also no long term fears for Aaron Jones & Jamaal Williams, but acknowledges it has stressed that position re: reps. Feels Tra Carson has impressed.
  • Matt LaFleur on Packers backing up Sternberger after big hit that started fight: “There’s no place for that ... I’m gonna back em up, too. I might not be able to do a lot, but I’m gonna try.”
  • The Packers will know more on Trevor Davis tomorrow.
  • LaFleur says if Aaron Rodgers gets enough good work in tomorrow, he won’t play Thursday vs. Texans and just start preparing for Week 2 of preseason.
  • Bill O'Brien on Lonnie Johnson being taken out of practice after hit 'it was time for Lonnie to hit the showers'

Tony Brown stacking success. The tools are there. Its so hard not to get pumped about Z. Has anyone slowed him down? This pass rush is going to be fun

Texans should suspend Lonnie Johnson for Thursday’s game
Shoot no... after 3 years of flag football camps that rough housing is just what we needed. The team rallied to their team mate. The boys took some lumps but came back to practice. These kind of practices in August keep you playing in Late January and February.

I'm pretty fired up for the season and I can't say that I have felt that way in several years. The defense in particular looks like it could be special and the new scheme on O gives me hope. Would love nothing more than to shove it right down the Bears throats on opening weekend.

Was at practice today. Can't really add much. Was there with family so not 100% focused on the field. Was on the south side of the field so only saw the Texans offense against the Packer defense. General impressions:
- The Smiths plus Gary are solid upgrades over CM3 and Perry.
- Brown and Holman have some skills and it seems likely that both make the team.
- Ento is an interesting guy. Might not be quite ready for the roster but has enough tools to see what you can get from him after a year on the PS.
- Was good to see Kevin King talking to and working with Ento along the sidelines on some footwork and technique stuff.
- M. Adams looks good and Keke had some nice reps. Both should help in replacing Daniels.
- Lancaster and even Sagapolu showed nice push at times. Not sure Sags can make the team but maybe he gets a PS spot.

Texans should suspend Lonnie Johnson for Thursday’s game

Since he’s being held out today, I stand by my comment.

From what I’ve read, yesterday was supposed to be a limited contact practice and Johnson screwed that pooch big time.

He either can’t hear, can’t read, or both.
