Wisconsin Athletics reports 7 positive COVID-19 tests

again, I'm not surprised that college athletes are testing positive after they get to campus. They have been cooped up at home under the protection of family, and then they go to school and start interacting with others - and not being safe. They certainly are not going to campus and just staying in their rooms alone.

Fortunately, while we've seen reports of many athletes, both college and professional, that have tested positive - I don't recall any active athletes that have died from it.

Doesn't even say if they were symptomatic.

HIPPA? Since when does that apply to COVID stuff? I thought it all went out the window in a pandemic.

Honestly not sure. Was just speculation. NCAA rules / protocol on injuries is not consistent

I just know that the professional teams are required to get permission from the player to release the player's name when getting a positive test, per HIPAA.

I'm not talking about player names, I think it's relevant just generally speaking to know if these positives test were from sick people or positives found through blanket testing. I don't see what HIPAA has to do with that.

From past experience UW athletics have been very close to the vest disclosing any injury / medical information.

HIPPA does not apply to the reporting of positive COVID cases in a public health emergency. They are NOT required to release a name but they are required by law to tell the public number of positives within a certain time period. Before I get a slew of know it all answers this was one of the first topics covered in the CDC/FEMA conference calls way back in March...so yes I am not pulling it out of my ass.
