Wisconsin Badgers vs. Michigan Wolverines: Preview, predictions and prognostications

Spoiled and unrealistic expectations is 2 different things. Grey area maybe. Other than Wilson we have not had a QB who we can say will carry the team. Spoiled 13-1 was not indicative to what this team was. Schedule set up perfect, B1G was down and roster was more vet in nature. Unrealistic expectations Now....Let’s be realistic it’s not easy to recruit to Madison. We are not and may never be OSU or Michigan and as bad as Franklin is even PSU has more equity. If and I think it will happen at some point the B1G balances it’s divisions it’s going to be make the natives more restless. Trips to Indy will not be a given each year. 10-2, 9-3 will be more the norm. Even without any division changes it will take a perfect storm to win the B1G and compete for a playoff berth

I call it spoiled because a lot of fans felt that's what they should expect. You can use semantics all you want, it doesn't change anything. And yes, they were 13-1 because that's what their record was. You can say that the league was down, but that's not true. It's your opinion. The conference was 7-1 in Bowl games, so your statement is incorrect.

I do agree that it's difficult recruiting to Madison. You might ask yourself why? You can talk about prowess of program, etc, but over the last decade the Badgers have produced a lot of NFL players. They have 22 in the NFL, while OSU and Penn St have 25. That means that no matter what anyone thinks, they do turn out guys who can play on Sunday. So, what's the reason? Alumni, and how far they're willing to go to get a kid into their schools.

Judging bowl records is misleading. It’s matchups. Nebraska was down, so was Iowa so was Purdue in the West. Michigan was 8-5. Remember OSU got drilled at home by Oklahoma.

Back to matchup. OSU / USC was a mismatch. Northwestern beat an average Kentucky team (7-5) Iowa over Boston College which was 3rd in its division. Washington State which was 6-3 in a weak Pac12 played MSU. And it the B1G was so strong why was OSU left out of the playoffs?

Why is it hard to recruit in Madison? Simple. Academics. It changed a few years ago when the new admission director came in from University of Chicago. Second reason is recruiting base. State is limited. As Barry once said. We get our heart and soul from Wisconsin and hands and feet from everywhere else

Geography is the biggest problem I think. One of the recruiting services looked at this in the past and noted that a significant majority of recruits stayed within 250 miles of home. It's basically in the same group as Iowa, Minny, Nebraska, etc.

They have found an edge over the past couple of decades with great coaching and some other intangibles that have allowed them to recruit just a little better than those schools and to develop players to a higher level.

Just look at the recruiting rankings. They obviously have some flaws and don't tell the whole story, but there is sort of a rough correlation between the rankings and how these teams finish in the polls. It's not like teams in the 40's of the rankings are challenging for titles. Even with the early bump UW got by getting commits from some top recruits, the 2019 class is setting up to be just a touch above average for UW. 247 Sports currently has them at #31. After they fill out the class they'll probably be around #25 - not all that much higher than their most recent 10 year history. They'll likely out-perform that ranking as they always seem to.

And to build on that point there was a study of how many D1 recruits per state. Not surprising FLA (336) , Texas (330) and Cal (224) were the top 3, Ohio came in #5 (121) Michigan #9 (72) and Penn #11 (56). Wisconsin? 15, Iowa 12, Minnesota 18. The overall midwest pool is small. Why does the SEC dominate? Georgia (210),Louisiana (95) and Alabama (91).

No doubt, location has a lot to do with school chosen. The kids the Badgers get from Texas, Florida, New Jersey, and California, are kids who see the Badgers as their best opportunity to make it to the next level, and aren't recruited as heavily locally.

Right now the Badgers get a lot of recruits out of Minnesota because their team is down. If it changes, recruiting in Minnesota will get a lot tougher.

I look at the recruiting done, and think about how Tuf Borland chose OSU over Wisconsin, despite the success his brother Kyle had. I hoped Kyle would draw him in. But, as people expected, the OSU recruiting won him over, and his parents were elated that he made that choice. Once again, it was all about location.

What has worked in Wisconsin's favor is that they can turn huge farm boys into solid offensive linemen. They also mold NFL style LBs. That's where they seem to excel most.

We still don't get a lot of kids from Texas and don't get me started on how Anderson messed that up from an academics situation. As to Florida that pipeline started with Bielema who made inroads back to his K State days and even to this day is not great, CALI is 1 or 2 kids a year tops. And lets be honest Anderson burnt a lot of bridges with Wisc HS coaches, Jersey has been a pipeline for years but hell is Rutgers you are up against.

Texas is a tough recruiting state. So many schools in this region, and so many good programs. But, when the Badgers do get one out of Texas, they are usually pretty good.

seeing the same bunch of buffoons who were pro GA out running their moths

I would heartily disagree with them, but I would be interested to see these Gary Anderson supporters and their running moths. [}i{]

A bunch of them on social media..... need a spread coach blah blah, PC is too old school blah blah. The fools just can't see how well this program runs compared to 98 % out there. Spoiled I tell you
