So any chance Fickell might try to bail on UW? Since we already see PSU open up as will others could Fickell try to sell himself on a bigger school saying it was UW that they tied his hand they did not give him what he needed to recurit and pay UW whatever his buyout is to leave? Could another school believe that could have a bigger NIL money tree want him?
 
I think Fickell is damaged goods at this point, and I don't see any serious P4 school hiring him until they have a little more to go on with him. I think he'll have to take a DC job or an HC job at a lower level program. It's one thing to say UW has limitations that you couldn't overcome and so you couldn't get over the hump. It's another thing to take over a .500ish program and turn it into one of the worst P4 programs in the country.
 
A potential wrinkle on the Fickell situation. Was listening to a podcast talking about the contract and apparently if Fickell is let go, the buyout is not due as a lump sum but rather as incremental monthly payments over a specified time period. That would at least lessen the blow. Still hamstrings UW somewhat but at least you don't have to hand over $25mil immediately. I can't vouch for the podcaster so can't 100% say he's correct, but he seemed pretty knowledgeable.

Which also could mean that his buyout present value is a lot less than $25-28M and might be affordable to just be done with it.

Again, I don't think Coach Fick is a bad coach. I just don't think he can inspire and coach modern kids. If he's as I believe he was sold to us - tough no nonsense - I just don't think his message persuades these kids. I think that's why he's "dumbfounded." Saban is and got out. Our beloved Barry would blow a gasket with these kids.

Without knowing anything, I'm inferring from Coach Fick's demeanor that he no longer wants anything to do with Bucky Football Players.
 
Cincy was a small time program that over achieved. UW and Fickell both thought he could do it at the next level. Seems like Fickell is probably suited to be a mid major coach and does not have to worry about the NIL as much or having to get top kids into the program.
