NBC averaged 26 million viewers across TV/streaming. 1.6M was streaming for Bucs / Cowboys. This is a good example why networks struggle with moving prime sports to a streaming platform, they can’t justify ad rates with those numbers. The other issue is measurement. The streaming numbers are measured by Average Minute Audience so I’m skeptical that 1.6M is accurate. Another reason way advertisers and very cautious to spend on streaming live sports. So feel comfortable for another 10 years until the Super Bowl goes to PPV

If they offer a duel opportunity the numbers will increase and straight up I would tell you I think the number is low.... most of the people I know stream now. No tv provider.

I have no doubt its inaccurate but the Average Minute Audience measurement is just not the best tool. I think if measurement was more like linear TV, average quarter hour average the number would be lower actually. Remember this number is only over “legal” platforms. I can tell you TV sales folks don’t like it at all since they are pushed to sell streaming

Personally I streamed the 1st half on my tablet, 2nd half on linear NBC. Get back to measurements

I'm nearly 100% streaming now. Very little on regular TV that interests me.

The big exception is live sports. And that’s the issue. Sports helps justify carriage and retransmission fees. It’s the lifeline

Just curious about the viewership for the games that were aired over Amazon Prime last year. Did they get a feel for what it would be like to carry a full slate of games?

I’m not sure on the technical side but from an ad sales / revenue perspective it was average at best. The challenge is measurement and that’s how ad inventory is sold. It’s hard to run any attribution model to justify it.

What it’s going to come down to? will ESPN CBS and / or FOX move games to OTT / Streaming? The economics don’t work with rights fees and the rest of the economic model (carriage fees & retransmission fees). And then how do you justify the gaps that will happen in ad revenue?

I am, atm, pretty pissed off at all things streaming. I'll use Discovery as my example because I like Discovery and TLC and other channels that all appear to be part of the same network. Here's my beef:

I pay Spectrum for the mere privilege of watching these channels yet I still have to sit through commercials that seem to average 33%. Seriously. A 120 minute movie fills a 3 hour broadcast window. The math works out the same all over the place on just about every channel.

So, I pay Spectrum for the privilege, but I STILL have to watch 33% commercials... AND NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME (every 7 minutes) IF I WANT YOUR "GOOD" PROGRAMMING I GOTTA PONY UP ANOTHER $4.99 PER MONTH AND STREAM IT?

Why I oughta...
