Jimmy Graham Contract Numbers

Even if it is a 1 year deal, add to that the fact that by all accounts the offense is going to feature this guy heavily. They moved on from Jordy with Graham in mind as someone to replace his production. Then we find out apparently his knees are so bad that as a last resort he's doing these experimental stem cell treatments, which may or may not have repercussions for him in the near or distant future... it's both money and mental capital they have invested in him. Even if it is just a year, that's a year wasted for the team if things go south for him.

Didn't MM, early in his GB career, once base his offense around a TE?

No... his offense was never based on a TE. He really created "his" offense in New Orleans and prefers to use a multi spread set with some ... I stress some west coast principles he learned in KC.

I believe they signed Graham to A. Hush the "we never sign a name FA" crowd. AND B. Because they didn't have a pick that graded out in the draft that could start and contribute where they projected him.

I'm not sure why but I thought one year, he was making Finley the focal point and that very year Finley got injured.

I think there's maybe a little semantics issue going on here. After Finley's breakout 2009 season, MM and AR certainly tried to take advantage of Finley's abilities in 2010 by feeding him the ball and trying to take advantage of the mismatches they believed they'd have for the TE within their offense. I don't think you can say MM planned the offense around him as it was really the same offensive scheme as ever was, just with a superior player at the position, but knowing his abilities there's also no question they thought he'd be able to get open a lot and make a lot of plays for them.

You are correct, that's the year he busted his ACL and Rodgers got red hot later in the year on route to a SB title.

Yeah, you nailed it. That sounds about right. I just thought I remembered a lot of talk of using Finley as the focal point and when he went down, it forced MM to retool a bit. My memory isn't thst great though and your version sounds right.
